The performance issues aren't universal Bob. They may be hardware and/or footage related, so for you it may be that 24.1 is the best option.
I've noticed slowdowns, but my issues are more to do with timeline stability, even during short form projects.

I'm not surprised that ProRes was OK as it's a lightly compressed codec, but amazed that 265 plays back better the 264. Their is either something odd about the conversion or PS24 doesn't like it. Do you have the same issue with h.264 from other sources?

At the 9% threshold, do either of the versions/platforms actually create Playback Optimisation files?

If you try the movieboard drivers, beware of using the 64 bit ones - they crash if you have 2Gb or more of memory - as in virtually useless....

Masks are like any other layer - they have a hierachy based on the track order. So a mask on an upper track will only show what that effect allows from the tracks below. However, you can apply a function as both a Matte and a Mask to any single mask.

What format is the recording? I'm assuming it is in a video format, so this is down to how you did the screen capture.
Can you play it in the source viewer?

The new patch for PS24 includes the new drivers, but there is still an issue with audio DC offset.
