• Re: MC shortcuts

MC is an excellent editor with some great features. I am only starting out with it but am already very impressed with how quickly I can get things done. As a simple observation it would seem that rendering is also better than FCS for things like image stabilisation, transitions and filters (I don't have any empirical data but it is quicker!). I do ...

  • Re: MC Impressions

That's what I thought. Therefore, next question: any point transcoding to DNxHD before importing or better to let the AVID transcode from pro-res? (I've got to transcode from avchd at the moment anyway; neo-scene to pro-resHQ is easiest and fastest; hopefully AVID will offer some kind of means of handling the increasingly popular avchd; either as ...

  • Re: MC Impressions

I wonder if any Liquid -> MC converts may be able to answer a question I posted on the AVID MC - Mac forum:When using avchd cameras I have a couple of options:1 use neo-scene/final cut to convert to pro-res then import into AVID;2 use voltaicHD to convert direct to DNxHD and fast import into AVIDIn both of these options, does MC3 create a new ...

  • Re: MC Impressions

Brilliant tip Sylvain. I now have full screen playback at 1920*1080 on my second monitor. It is not as good as the intensity pro output I get from FCS, but not bad at all and better than an SD output. I like the modal approach of Media Composer even if it catches me out having to remember that to move clips on the timeline I have to switch to ...

via full screen playback? The manual states that 800 by 600 should be the max resolution for full screen playback. Is this not correct? I will try higher res tomorrow.

  • Re: MC Impressions

I am using the second head on my graphics card to output to my 2nd monitor but it is not ideal (e.g SD instead of HD, etc.) Most likely I will use it in tandem with Final Cut Studio for HD monitoring as and when necessary.

  • Re: MC Impressions

Just completed my first cuts only project in MC 3.1.3 Found it very good to use once I had followed Douglas' excellent tutorials (plus a few others including the MC quickstart training) Imported analogue material via a BM design intensity pro, edited and output a qt ref into compressor and encore cs4 (mac) to create sd-dvd. Smooth workflow and ...

  • Re: Avid and FCP

Automatic Duck have products that are mentioned frequently on FCP forums; I believe they allow for some movement of projects between FCP and AVID and vice versa, but not sure what happens with filters, etc. Never used it but may be worth investigating? gerbow

  • Re: Forced to give in and sell my Avid Liquid Pro 7!

There are add-on cards by various manufacturers to add e-SATA, e-SATA raid etc. I really like the stability of my Mac.
