How much do hard drive transfer rates help or hinder editing, rendering, file export, or burning of a large video project?
The internal drive on my system, where the operating system and programs reside, is a rather ordinary 5400 RPM. A 7200 RPM or 10,000 RPM drive would presumably operate faster, but how much of the sluggishness ...

Interesting that a Melbourne audience gets first peak. Hopefully, a Lako Pacific techie has been able to ''test drive'' the beta on a ''typical'' PC, and the preview is not simply screen shots in a PowerPoint. But what folks are able to reach a site in Burwood at 7PM? Does the User Group ever webcast its ...

Cyberlink is a good company, and I'm sure Power Director is a decent product. It is supposed to accept AVCHD and claims the ability to burn BD disks with menus, which Studio 11.2 certainly cannot do.
However, witness:

Too bad there is no full review of the HD video strengths and ...

''Avid's top end products aren't under any threat from Studio....''
Certainly true, but by design, since fewer would buy (or upgrade) the high end products if the consumer versions offered more or the same for less money. The question is simply whether there is any high-end Avid video product that is fully BD friendly. If not, then ...

jwvaughn may be right. Gaps in the time line, even if tiny, can frustrate file export or disc burning. Gaps wrecked some of my early projects. Fortunately, they were visible enough to find. I also had problems with occasional bad clips. The best preventive medicine was to break a project into units, create and ...

a) As of May 13, 2008, the most reliable estimate is that Studio 12 will be launched no later than 2010 and possibly sooner.
b) Avid Tech lost $21m in 1-QTR-08, may show red again in 2-QTR-08, and has announced major management changes.
c) Numerous electronics and software makers and vendors face a glut and are scrambling to transform their ...

Will there be one? Might it exist already, but be accessible only to a conclave of seasoned users or pro-sumers?
Why do we see a ''museum'' of closed vestiges of the beta forums for Studio 10 and Studio11? Were they visible or invisible until the versions went on market? How much time transpired between the initiation of the ...

Unless you are young (no presbyopia) and have very acute vision, you will not obtain much benefit from the 1920x1080p or 1920x1200p sreen at reading distance. The ''full HD'' resolution is appreciable for most people only on large screens over 40''. Small text might appear somewhat better on the higher resolution laptop, but not unless ...

A wide screen monitor is a high risk gift for an anniversary or a mother's day. It might earn you no more recognition than last year's attempt to please with that dainty compact chain saw. A large screen also disturbs a room's ''fang shui'' or whatever they call it. It makes the 4x3 still photos and You-Tube videos look ...

A single device that takes both good HD video and good still photos will please people who dislike traveling with dual sets of equipment.
Casio pioneered the use of AVCHD h.264 format video in its pocket digicams, its V series hibrids, and its new Exlim Pro EX-F1, which is a prosumer sort of quasi-DSLR with a 1 / 1.8 CMOS much better than ...
