• Re: A new app for the iPad ...

People who wait for the iPad3 can spare themselves the need to upgrade later to use the quad-core versions of Apple's iMovie, FCPX, or those of its new subsidiary partner, Avid. On the other hand, quad-core Tegra Android tablets will be common shortly. Several astute and well-poised firms are gearing up to offer Android video editing apps ...

  • Re: Pinnacle "Tab Studio" 1.0

At least one competing firm will introduce an Android NLE app this year. Another is developing a creative cloud for Android. A third is almost there too. Avid has not replied to an inquiry whether it will too. Based on its decision to offer a cheap Avid Studio app for iPad users, one might be forgiven a fear that the ...

  • Re: Image quality difference between a blue ray disc and a mpeg 1080i HD disc??

Blu-ray uses an AVC or MPEG codec with bitrates up to 30mbps, using BD-MPEG, but generally in the 17mbps range for BD-AVC consumer-made discs. The BD-AVC format is more compact, but may be more prone to artifacts if there is complex motion, unless you shoot the video at a bitrate higher than 17mbps. The average bitrate ...

  • Re: Pinnacle "Tab Studio" 1.0

Avid has just introducted an Avid Studio ''app'' for iPad. http://ir.avid.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=645405 What do buyers obtain for the modest $5 sum? A ''trailer'' for the Windows AS product? Or a super steal? Time now for an Android version? An iPad typically costs $200 more than an Android ...

  • Avid's Own Announcement

No mention of an Android version. Nor of an AS V1.2 or AS 2.0. http://ir.avid.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=645405 How in blazes they can make money off this beats me, unless the AS iPad app is basically a means to get Apple users to see ads for other Avid products. There is an investor conference on Feb. 7. ...

  • Re: Any recommendations for a video editing laptop for <$1000?

lbeck: BTW, I agree with your comments on tablets. I don't think they will ever be a primary video editor. I have an iPad2 and some video editing capability, but the iPad at least for me is slower without mouse and a full-size keyboard. Also storage is limited and for me the inability to export large files (e.g., AVI) is a ...

  • Re: Any recommendations for a video editing laptop for <$1000?

Netbooks, notebooks, and laptops are evolving rapidly. As of yet, no tablet is powerful enough to edit video, but I'd not be surprised if, by 2013, we don't see ones that can. No matter what the device, however, I'd not put much stock in battery life. Most tests involve ''apps'' that consume much less power than video editing. ...

  • Re: Studio 12U / 14UC - Audio from one AVCHD clip looping in preview and export

This is just a shot in the dark, but PS 14 (and perhaps PS 15 too?) had a problem with AVCHD files longer than about 7 minutes. Some people reported a pixelation or break-up. Could some shared factor have contibuted to an audio problam after a certain point in a large clip? Whether true or not, maybe a similar workaround would ...

  • Re: ARRRGGGGHHHH - so frustrated...

Shouldn't people download the free trial versions first? Doesn't that spare the hazard of a download that goes bad? Is the download content of the trial version vitually the same as the ''full'' version, absent unlock and activation of a few features? Thus, before paying any money, people would have assurance that they have a working ...

  • Re: An AS V2 or any other Avid product that can edit JVC FY-HMQ10 4k video

Maybe it will take some time for interest in 4k to register. However, be it known that some people (even in this sub 4k world) find it useful. Luminous Landscape even alleges that editing it is not an issue at all! This is the sort of assurance one typically gets from folks who don't do much editing (LL has scoffed that no one ...
