I had not done any stills since upgrading to v12.1 until yesterday and I do believe the quality of the rendered video may have gone down again. Just me or have others experienced this?

The quality of rendered jpegs when down at version 10, went up a bit with v11, but has never achieved the quality of v9 in the opinion of several of us long time users. Whether this is the cause of your problem I don't know but it may very well be contributing to the issue.

You can rest assured that M$ is going to try and make as much money as possible and if they think ten different versions of the OS is the way to go, guess what! It has never been clear to me why there with so many version of XP - Home, Multimedia, Pro, Server...just nuts!

Whoa! Thanks a ton folewood! I have been contemplating removing V12 from my machine to clean up as the upgrade seems to left tidbits everywhere. Now I can do it with much less trepidation. Have a on me.

The resolution was to upgrade to Studio V12. Something I did not try was to use an undelete program to recover the files. Here is the link to the thread discussing it. ...

My guess for the examples is that it is not the patch/update causing the problem but rather the update process. What I suspect is that something is supposed to run once on restart and then never again but the method to do that got screwed up and you end up in the reboot loop. I give up! I suppose I could try a reinstall but my HFX's are buried god only knows on what installation disks since the only original install I have is V8 and everything else is an update.
Transitions have been screwed up since v11 with changes not being updated and requiring a manual deletion of files to get everything rebuilt ...
