I was under the impression that if you could play anything through your speakers, regardless of source, Audacity would also be able to record it in real time. Once Audacity has it, it can be outputted in whatever format you want.

Usually, if you drag and drop the video on to Audacity it will extract just the audio which you can then output to whatever format you need. That's generally mp3 or wav.
