An update, particularly for John, who is about to get his two cameras serviced.
I've today had to pay the fixed price service fee of £455 before they will look at it. The phrase, ''even Dick Turpin wore a mask'' springs to mind. They don't even give you 12 months warranty on the parts they replace, it's a mere 90 days.
So all in all ...

Hello Dave
there is a form on the UK site which is downloadable which clearly states that HDR prefix cams are £176.25. Now I guess this is an anomoly that they haven't come across before, but I am taking them to task over it. It's fine that they are labeling the fx1 as a pro or semi pro camera, but as such it should do more than n100 ...

John, just to let you know that I am now having a battle with Sony about their pricing. On the returns form, downloadable from the web, they quote 176.25 for camcorders with the prefix HDR. which is about what you thought and what I had expected to pay.
Beware, having phoned the service dept , they are asking for over 400 for the ...

Hi John,
I think you are probably right in saying that all roads do lead to the Sony Service Centre, so I'll be packaging it up and getting it away today with a bit of luck. I think I will be having words with Sony, as although the camera is just over 3 years old, I'll hazard a guess that it's not got much more than 100 hours on it, ...

Has anyone on the forum experienced this message ''re insert cassette''. It has started to occur relatively frequently, even when I popped in a head cleaning tape, which I couldn't get to run at all. I have read on the net about bashing the camera on the side to re seat a roller but looking into the tape compartment the roller seems to be seated ...

I've done a little more experimenting.
Previously when trying to play the exported files I've had liquid open. I've just tried again with it closed and everything id now fine, so I guess it's a graphics card issue, which is a bit light at only 128 mb.
Just for my own benefit, in setting up an HDV project with the 1440 x 1080 50i ...

I wondered if it was due to the codecs in my real player and windows media player. I've exported it as Mpeg 4 and it has worked fine. It plays as an mpeg 4 in windows media player and realplayer. It's also gone to DVD with no issues and played in cyberlink power dvd. . I suppose the acid test would have been to upload the mpeg 2 file to vimeo and ...

Hello,
I've just completed a short HDV project , 3mins 11 secs. I set up a timeline HDV 1440x 1080 as the standard preset, and have edited the piece. I'm now trying to export it for Vimeo and have tried the mpeg 2 hdv2 and divx preset for 16:9 high def, but although it is compliling the file as I would have expected, the result is a load ...

Hello all
can Ijust ask a question please about this. I have now downloaded Smetvids codecs and installed them. I'm about to import some HDV video shot in Mauritius on an FX1. As I understand it I set up the timeline as discussed above, but what codec would you reccomend. I have n't upgraded my comp yet. Would you use one of these new ...
