I have also just bought a WD Live hub. According to posts on the WD user forums the latest WD firmware is struggling with certain DV - avi codecs and may not play the videos. My best advice anyway would be to render or import to mpeg, which the WD unit handles effortlessly, and apparently in very good ...

Regarding DD5.1 - after a bit of digging around it seems that Premier Pro, and NeroVision can import 5.1 surround from the camcorder. It is carried in the ac3 audio, which S15 claims to be able to import. I won't know until I try it, unless someone out there is already doing it!

I merely copy and paste to an external HDD directory using Windows Explorer. I have all of my video creations (DVDs) suitably organised within a Directory called 'My DVD Backups' on an external drive. I just copy the final Video-ts folder from my C: Drive and paste to the external drive. Any new disc copies ...

Interesting thread! I am shortly to go the Blu-Ray route, when I purchase my new i7 quad core PC. This summer I purchased a Panasonic TM900 and am stockpiling all of my 1080 50i footage for editing on my new PC. My current spec will not cope without conversion to mpeg.
So...

Back to see my Dad next week. Will try that.
The sound bar to the right of the central capture window leaps into action whenever I press play on the VCR, but as soon as I 'Start Capture' it crashes, followed by the usual Windows messages about 'program not responding' and 'Windows searching for solutions'. My Dad's PC is ...

Thanks Raff - spent all day with my Dad on his PC, but I still cannot capture on S14 using his 510-USB device. We tried everything in your link, plus some suggestions from other threads, but S14 repeatedly crashes when we play the VCR through the USB device. Luckily, he still has S12 so we use that to capture with no ...

Glad I found this thread, and the others in a similar vein. I have just got home from having spent all day at my Dad's trying to get the importer to work on his newly installed S14. I bought S14 for him because I thought that it looked easier for him to use. He already had S12, but I thought that the 'Import', as ...

''HDV 1080i would be 1440x1080i (anamorphic, so it's still 16:9 aspect ratio).''
Thanks - I tried it... again no discernible degradation (at least not on my monitor), and a significantly smaller file size, but the same 4 scenes (75 seconds) took 6 mins 15 secs to render on my machine.
At least I have something to work with. Now I ...

Thanks for the response - JKoch - I was kinda hoping you would chip in. I concurred with your views elsewhere about not bothering with 1080p for the time being. Can't see that I would ever go back to re-edit stuff from the original footage so I am filming in 1080i.
Anyway, I have just tried 4 avchd clips totalling 75 secs ...

OK, so I am now the proud owner of a Panasonic TM900 HD video camera. I am getting used to using it and have been very impressed so far. However, you will see from my PC spec that I need a new PC to edit my efforts with the new camera. My dual-core Athlon is barely up to the job. I know what I ...
