All I can suggest is that you may have installed an audio/video app that somehow screwed around with the way audio gets treated - PCM is the de-facto audio standard and that at least should work wherever you go.

Whether or not to upgrade to an i7 or something ''better'' than what you currently have is imo a question only you yourself can answer and the decision should be based on what you are/intend doing with your machine and what is/not important in your opinion .................
In this thread CUDA is a very good example - you started off saying how ...

Downloaded your ISO and the material has sound in W7 and XP here - both as proper DVD using PowerDVD and Media Player to play it as well as the simple VOB file. None of my set-top DVD players have a problem with it either. Mpeg Inspector also isn't moaning about anything so IMO you are stuck on your own there.
Some software (also set-tops) DVD ...

Disabling CUDA for the whole system and therefore for PowerDirector in particular is easy enough - go to the nVidia control panel and you can disable it there. Any insight into what the CUDA switch I mentioned I found in its settings panel earlier then actually does for PowerDirector if its not controlling CUDA?

Having used CUDA enhanced video software for the past month (not so much TMPGenc but rather Cyberlink Powerdirector and ...

IMO you are making the incorrect assumption that the mere presence of CUDA and use being made of it is the guarantee that things will always go smoother/faster in any and all apps making use of CUDA ..................
Perhaps you need to have a read/study of real-world experiments like this with eg TMPGenc ................
Many many more ...

Russ - glad to see age old experience still holds true wrt the swap's presence and Studio's dependency - I would therefore suggest killing the swap and RamDisk altogether as their management is a non-profitable operation ito system performance just as you have demonstrated
Do you run with background rendering enabled or disabled?
If ...

rgibbons:
First let me say I'm not an expert in paging files, nor in Studio; I came to this forum to learn, and share a few experiments I didn't see other posts on the subject during a limited 2 hour search here.
After a few more hours of checking other forums about paging files, it appears some systems can crash if one is missing. ...
