Welcome to the forums.  The first obvious answer is that the audio tracks are muted, look at the right side of the timeline track and there is a small speaker icon, if it has a line through it then the sound is muted, to un-mute simply click the icon. The second not quite so obvious but more likely reason is that the general sound is muted ...

Thanks to all of you for your kind remarks, let's hope it makes a difference.  Thanks also to Avid for allowing us to share our thoughts/gripes/complaints etc on this forum and for listening to their customers complaints/comments. We may not always get the result we hoped for but at least we are given the opportunity to ask.

Marchgale: I've now successfully completed a couple of edits with S14 and Sonicfire Pro 5. SP5 has been a good deal easier to use than I'd previously imagined and I can't say it's seriously hindered my workflow with weddings.
