Re: Pinnacle studio 26 update 26.2.0.298 Sep 14 2023 Whats New?

From Jeff Naylor (aka jjn) posted on the Facebook group "Pinnacle Studio Editors"

A new patch has just been released. PS26.2 is now available.
    PS26.2.298
    Major updates
    • Compatibility – Pinnacle Studio now provides support for Logitech Brio USB webcams.
    • Improvement – Create curve-shaped masks with the Pen tool.  Using the Pen tool, you can now draw an enclosed shape composed of curved line segments.
    • Improvement - Watchfolder absence prevents voice-over file retrieval.  A watchfolder has been added to the Library, enabling you to retrieve voiceover files if needed.
    • Improvement - Add an option on the Panel tab that allows users to toggle between applying 3D settings to an asset or a panel mask.  A new option Apply 3D settings to asset has been added to the Panel tab, allowing you to alternate between applying 3D settings to an asset or a panel mask. Enabling the checkbox synchronizes the asset's movement and rotation with that of the panel mask, while disabling it ensures the asset remains stationary, unaffected by the panel mask's position or rotation.
    Resolved issues
    • Nested project names containing “&” are not displayed in the Timeline
o Nested project names containing the character "&" are now visible in the Timeline. Furthermore, the functionality of "Find in Library" now works as expected for these nested projects.
    • Playback issue when enabling the Reverse Clip option and applying Time Remapping
o When applying Time Remapping with the Reverse Clip option enabled, the playback no longer appears choppy and plays seamlessly. Additionally, one second of the end of the clip or segment is no longer cut off.
    • Timeline preview does not show some single frames correctly when Hardware Acceleration is set to CUDA
o When the video rendering acceleration mode is set to CUDA, single frames are now displayed accurately during the timeline preview.
    • Straightening an image, and then clearing the correction does not restore the original zoom level and rotation angle, resulting in the image remaining zoomed and rotated.
o After straightening an image in the Timeline, clearing the correction restores the
image to its original zoom level and rotation angle as expected.
    • Cutting or trimming the start of a DV AVI type 1 video clip results in the exported video without the accompanying audio track.
o When you cut or trim the start of a DV AVI type 1 video clip, the exported video now retains the audio track.
    • Audio playback fails after applying noise reduction to a clip with DD5.1 audio, working only during the initial playback of the clip
o The issue of audio playback failing after applying noise reduction to a clip with DD5.1 audio has been addressed.
    • Copying or moving multiple clips that are on different tracks by
using the Copy and Paste or Cut and Paste context menu commands is not performed
correctly when there are empty tracks between the clips o Copying or moving multiple clips that are on different tracks by using the Copy and Paste or Cut and Paste context menu commands now works properly when there are empty tracks between the clips.
    • Clips with Time Remapping applied have poor playback and scrubbing performance
o Playback and scrubbing performance of clips with Time Remapping applied has been resolved.
    • Application stops responding when toggling the Automatically crop frame to remove edge artifacts option on and off while connected to a supported analogue video capture device
o The application no longer stops responding when you toggle the Automatically crop frame to remove edge artifacts option on and off while connected to a supported analogue video capture device, such as a current-model Dazzle device with DazzleBDAX64 drivers, and a video source.
    • After cropping an image in the Timeline and applying a border, the border does not function as expected
o When you crop an image in the Timeline, and then add a border to it, the border around the photo now expands or increases in size based on the specified border size.
    • Flickering issue with motion elements in interlaced output of exported classic or motion titles
o The issue of flickering with motion elements when you export a classic or motion title that includes keyframed motion or legacy enter, emphasis, exit motion to an interlaced output file in any available resolution or format has been resolved.
    • Frozen preview and frame displayed when dragging starting edge to trim clip in 'Insert Mode'
o When you add a clip to the Timeline and change the timeline mode to 'Insert Mode', dragging the starting edge of a clip to the right to trim no longer causes the preview to freeze in the preview window.
    • Preview playback issues with Fade In-Out transition between split screen templates
o When applying a Fade In-Out transition between two Split Screen templates, the preview playback is now smooth and without any issues.
    • Loss of audio panning in exported MTS files with custom settings
o When exporting a project to the MTS format with custom settings and 5.1 audio, the exported result retains the audio panning observed during the preview on the timeline.
    • Incorrect French translation for 'Reset Thumbnails'
o The French translation of Reset Thumbnails is now Réinitialiser les miniatures.
    • 2D Transitions do not preview correctly on photos in Overlap Clips mode
o 2D Transitions preview correctly on photos in Overlap Clips mode.
    • Application stops responding when adjusting the Top and Bottom sliders in the Camera Blur effect if the ranges overlap
o The application no longer stops responding when the values of the Top and Bottom sliders in the Blur Region area of the Camera Blur effect (Editor >Effect > Camera > Blur) overlap.
    • Inconsistency between aspect settings in Timeline Settings dialog box and Display Information panel
o The Aspect setting in the Timeline Settings dialog box is consistent with the Frame aspect setting in Display Information panel as expected.
    • Application opens incorrect project due to misinterpreting filenames with spaces
o When project filenames contain spaces, the application now behaves as expected. Previously, it would ignore the portion of the name before the space and open a project with a name that consisted only of the string after the space. However, this issue has been resolved, and now the application correctly opens the intended project with the complete filename, including the portion before the space.
    • Loop Play does not function as expected when changing playback speed of video
o When viewing a video in the Source or Timeline, changing the playback speed, and then enabling the 'Loop Play' option, the video loops continuously during playback as expected.
    • Incorrect resetting of Angle value (Corrections > Straighten) when re-selecting images
o The issue occurred when dragging two images to the timeline and performing the following steps: selecting the first image, double-clicking it, clicking Corrections> Straighten, and changing the Angle value. Subsequently, selecting the second image, and then re-selecting the first image caused the Angle value to reset instead of remaining unchanged as expected. The issue has been resolved in this latest update.
    • Disabling of dual preview mode in Player after re-opening app from local AXP or AXX file
o When dragging clips to the timeline, enabling dual preview mode, saving the project, closing the application, and then reopening the project by double-clicking the local AXP or AXX file, dual mode remains enabled as expected.
    • Flashing vertical lines appear during video playback after applying the StudioChromaKeyer effect
o Flashing vertical lines no longer appear on the screen after you place a video in the Timeline, apply the StudioChromaKeyer effect (Editor > Effect > Keyers), allow the effect to finish processing, and play back the video.
    • Pinnacle Studio 26 stops responding when attempting to crop an image or video into shape
o Photos or videos are now successfully cropped when you follow these steps: Launch the app, access the Split Screen Template Creator, select a shape tool, draw a shape in the editor window, and drag a photo or video clip into the shape. Activate Crop mode and try to crop the media in the editor window.
    • Video resolution changes on import into Pinnacle Studio 26
o The issue with incorrect resolution and aspect ratio of imported videos has been resolved
    • Pinnacle Studio stops responding when previewing Insta360 clips
o Pinnacle Studio no longer stops responding when previewing clips captured with Insta360 cameras, whether in INSV format or converted to another format in Insta360 Studio.
    • Application stops responding when MOV files from iPhone 11 are imported into Multi-Camera Editor
o The application no longer stops responding when MOV files captured on iPhone 11 are imported into the Multi-Camera Editor workspace.
    • Peak level meter displays audio levels for the wrong track (Beta 0986)
o After an audio clip has been moved to a new track, the peak level meter displays audio levels for the correct track.
    • - When working with dual monitors, opening Multi-Camera Editor causes Google Chrome to close
o When working with a dual-monitor display and Pinnacle Studio is on the secondary monitor, opening the Multi-Camera Editor workspace no longer causes Google Chrome to close.
    • Blu-ray disc images created in Legacy Authoring Mode do not work in VLC Player

    Wow!

I hope the some of these resolved issues are related to the timeline lag I was experiencing.  I'm excited to try it out!!

Hats off to the Dev team for working so hard!

    What specific timeline lag?

Re: Pinnacle studio 26 update 26.2.0.298 Sep 14 2023 Whats New?

    Hi Tony,

Since V25 and on different computers including my recent upgrade,  I've had a lag in the timeline response. When I press play it's never an immediate start. There's always a slight delay prior to the timeline starting to play and when the project gets more complex it really starts to be noticeable. Eventually the timeline just craps out and it gets worse.

When comparing timeline response with Vegas Pro 20. Resolve, Corel Video Studio 2023 and Filmora 12 none of these programs have this issue with the identical project media and plugs.  (NEW Blue's Chromakey Pro, Skin Smoothing, and Film2).

BTW Filmora 12 has an amazing plug called "Beautify" which has some really effective but not so obvious retouch effects on the face.. and the performance hit during the live playback in undetectable.  It's really something else. My only issue with Filmora is the final rendering clarity is not as good as the rest... it's noticeable and I don't like it.

I use a reduced res in the preview along with proxies sometimes with all of these programs to get smooth timeline performance and for some reason Pinnacle 26 starts lagging and progressively get worse. This is the sole reason I don't use the program at this point.  Would you like to try the project out on your machine and see if it happens with your setup? It would be interesting to find out.

    Regards

    Craig

Allow me to rephrase my Question. Where can the official release from Pinnacle be found, and why do they not release it within the patch?

    Thank you again.

    Tony P:
Have you done the update yet?

I updated  yesterday. I've been testing it for several hours this weekend. Performance is noticeably better for me ;-)

So far I have not been getting the odd timeline/performance degradation where I would have to restart the program. Things seem stable and normal which is great!

One thing that is still an issue for me is that when rendering with the NewBlue Chromakey Pro and the NewBlue Skin Touchup plug the render performance is really bad.... I'm talking 1fps with a 4k (UHD) rendering 4k (UHD) and 3-5fps rendering 1080p from a 4K (UHD) . GPU usage in this scenario is pretty much Zero and CPU usage is very low (8%-10%) as well. There's a code issue here for sure.

FWIW the NB plugs mentioned perform normally "much much better" in Filmora12, Vegas Pro 20 and Resolve with the same project layout. (These are 3-4 minute Green Screen Singing Videos with some effects and backgrounds etc.)

On a brighter note when using the Pinnacle StudioChromaKeyer plug the 4k rendering is super fast and after doing a deep dive/testing with the Pinnacle StudioChromaKeyer plug I've found that it does a really good job... pretty much on par with NB ChromaKey Pro but without the horrific rendering performance so I'm good there when using  PS26.

Since the NB Skin Touch up plug's rendering performance is so poor with Pinnacle I don't have an easy option to "Beautify" in Pinnacle Studio unless there's an option I don't know about.

The update is definitely a step in the right direction based on my initial testing.

     Regards

If you are using the "old" versions of this plugin, they are 32bit, not 64bit, and not optimized like NBFX current plugins. Like their Stabilizer. It might be good, but doing a few second clip with it takes "forever" to render. That is not the fault of PS but the plugin.

FWIW the NB plugs mentioned perform normally "much much better" in Filmora12, Vegas Pro 20 and Resolve with the same project layout. (These are 3-4 minute Green Screen Singing Videos with some effects and backgrounds etc.)

I have Vegas Post 21 365, Resolve Studio 18.6 and yes, NBFX works faster. But that is because it's an OFX plugin designed to work more efficiently and integrate better with the software since the editing software uses this standard. I am not sure of how well the 3rd party plugins integrate into Pinnacle, so if you are using NBFX TotalFX7, which is 64bit, it might not run as efficiently.

    Thanks for the reply Tony,

I did update to the latest versions of TotalFX7. I purchased it when there was a $99 deal with Pinnacle several years ago and they work very well in Vegas and Resolve. I wish they were more optimized in Pinnacle. Seems like they would since it was touted as a special at the time....  I don't recall them being this slow in the past but hey.... you can't always get what you want.
