What are you wanting to use the Importer for?
If you are just wanting to import videos, photos, audio files etc. that already exist in folders on the PC, you don't need to use the Import tab at all:
(a) You can right-click in the project bin where you want to import the assets and choose "Quick import..."
or (b) You can drag & drop assets from the Windows file explorer to the project bin
But if you are needing to use the Import tab to acquire video from a Pinnacle Dazzle or Moviebox capture device, DV camcorder (or the webcam!) - you might be able to "sneak up on it":
I'm guessing that on the first use of the Import tab after program installation, the choice of capture source might default to being a webcam or video capture device. But the settings Studio might be trying to apply to the device could be blank, or garbage
- With the webcam disabled, go into the Import tab, and choose the capture source as "My Computer", use the folder tree to locate any asset (video, picture or photo) and import it (the intention here is to make Studio remember that "My Computer" was the last-used capture source and show it again next time you witch to the Import tab)
- Close Studio and re-enable the webcam (or plug in a video capture device that you want to use). I vaguely recall that there was an issue with Studio 23, that it would crash if a USB device was connected or removed (I don't recall it being fixed in Studiko 23, but was fixed in later versions)
- Re-open Studio and try switching to the Import tab; if what I was hoping for in item 1 is true, then hopefully the Import tab will open at "My Computer" - and the webcam or the Dazzle/Moviebox device or DV camcorder will appear in another tab and you can switch to it.
- If things still don't work, instead of using Studio to capture the video, try using the MultiCam Capture Lite application; it should work with most webcams and might work with some video capture devices
