Following a recent Windows update to Windows 11 Home 22H2 OS build 22621.755 - Control panel will only let me create storage locations to the desktop rather than to any location.  I can't say for sure that the Windows update caused this, but it is after the update that the problem occurred.  So, for right now when I want to start a new project and choose with the assets are stored, I must create a new folder on my desktop since "Desktop" appears at the top of the tree in control panel when I choose a storage location.  

 This is an HP laptop -  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz   2.59 GHz    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I always appreciate the assistance on the Forum.  Can you suggest a fix.  Otherwise, I am restricted to always creating folders on the desktop only for asset storage.

I have both PS24 ultimate and PS25 ultimate on this laptop, and the problem the same for both versions.

Thank you, Saby.  As you can see, PS only sees folders on my desktop as locations for storage in the control panel.  If I create a new folder first, PS will add it to the list, but only if it exists on my desktop.  PS does not see the entire folder tree from my computer like it worked in the past.

I have got exactly the same problems. 

When I click on the folder symbol, I always get Desktop and I am not able to get to another folder on my PC.

64-bit OS: Windows 11 Home, OS built 22621.819
PC-Hardware: DELL XPS-89528, Intel Core i7-12700, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 8 GB, RAM: 32 GB Dual Chan.

Issue escalated to Corel.

Couple of thoughts:

• Do the affected users use Onedrive to sync or back up the files on their PCs?
• If so, has Onedrive moved the documents, pictures etc. folders so they are inside the Onedrive folder (and no longer directly under the top-level of the user's profile folder (e.g. C:\Users\<Your user name>\))?

There's a possible clue -  the Desktop folder seen by Studio seems no longer to be a system folder; it appears in Studio's "choose directory" dialogue as a plain, regular folder, no lomger with a special icon.

The Windows 11 22H2 cumulative update KB5019980 does appear to have made some changes to how things are displayed in the Windows file explorer, but here (not using Onedrive) it doesn't appear to have impacted the Studio control panel's ability to locate any of the folders defined in the "storage locations" page.

I have solved the Problem by completely uninstalling Microsoft-onedrive from my system. 

I used the old Control Panel and Programs and Features and there I uninstalled Microsoft-onedrive.

After that I performed a System Restart.

Now Pinnacle Studio works as before.

I can do without onedrive because I have enough storage space available.

Thank you Jochen, for confirming.  Neither I nor our developers could reproduce it, but their guess did not include OneDrive :/

 

@ Evideo, below is the developer's comment.  From your screenshots it looks like you already have W11. Can you run a Windows Update, just to be sure you already have latest updates installed?  If you won't miss it, maybe you can try the OneDrive removal that Jochen did.  If you don't want to do that, and if the Windows Update idea doesn't work, we can try to setup a remote debug session for our developers to investigate on your PC.

PS is calling a Windows API to launch the Folder Browser Dialog, and we have not for a long time changed this code logic.

I do suspect that the problem is related to OneDrive.  I do not wish to delete OneDrive.

It's not that, I've just done some testing. Its not the Onedrive build either. It's the 22H2 Feature update for Winows 11. I just installed it on my laptop and the PS Browse for Folder dialogue could only see my desktop. I rolled it back and I could see the whole PC again.

So, if it's not too late, roll back from 22H2 to 21H2 while Microsoft get their act together :-)

Unfortunately I don't think it's as simple as just 22H2 alone being the culprit; I have it here (build 22621.963) and my "browse for folders" in Studio's control panel (storage locations) is working normally; I can see and reach anywhere on my PC). But I don't have Onedrive (uninstalled it pretty soon after I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11). (Using PS26 Ultimate)

I don't think I said it was just 22H2. In numerous other posting on facebook and the public forum I've acknowledged that removing onedrive solves the problem. But if you don't have 22H2 installed, you don't get the problem.

Its time for a solution.  This appears to be  a common problem.  Very frustrating, uninstalling OneDrive is NOT a solution, I use this extensively, but do not want my studio files on one drive, want to work off one SSD.

 Sorry a frustrated rant, I see just need more clear fix.

1.  Stop OneDrive running, I did this via task manager, found Microsoft OneDrive, killed the process.

2. The setting now showed all my folders not just the desktop.  Set all the storage locations to where I wanted, applied.

3. Restarted Pinnacle 26 check settings still there. 

4. Rebooted PC, one drive connected ok, settings still saved in Pinnacle.

 Not the best, better if Pinnacle worked.  Also this forum does not present well, images don't display, looks like a forum from the 90's.

 

 

I agree. However, it's every version of NGStudio that I've tested.

I began this thread in November, 2022.  I had this problem with Pinnacle ULT 24, 25, and 26.  Yesterday I began a new project and found that the problem no longer exists.  I can store projects to any location on my laptop, not just the desktop.  I appreciate the suggestions that were made above, but, frankly, I did not do anything differently.  I just kept storing to the desktop.  Now that I can store anywhere, I have to assume that some Windows update solved the problem since I did not do anything myself.  I pass this along so others can see if the problem is solved for them as well. I do keep my laptop updated with the latest version of Windows. I believe I am up to date.  Here is the information from my settings below.  If there is a later update I apologize. My Windows update states that I am up to date.  Thanks to all for your ongoing support.

I concur.

This must have been fixed by Microsoft. It certainly wasn't anything that Alludo have done, as the problem still existed after the last patch to 26, and there haven't been any patches to earlier versions since before the release of 26.
