Studio 23 Ultimate How to Import H.265 MP4 SOLVED

    Hi All

Ran across an import problem with material from my drone- D-log in MP4 in h.265 Windows 10 doesn't include the needed codec, Pinnacle Studio also does not.

Was just about to abandon Pinnacle when I ran into a 'How to on Youtube'  While the clip is about getting things into DaVinci  Resolve, the method also works for Studio.

Here's a copy from my post at the YouTube video:

"... would like to let people know that this also solves the problem in Pinnacle Studio 23( current is 25 I think).

Studio still won't see the material (H265) as importable from the watch folders, however through the manual import menu and from a Windows Explore window via drag-and-drop it works.
Now I can really up my game with my New DJI Air2S- Dlog H.265 here I come."

Hope this helps anyone fighting with this H.265 codec weakness of Windows machines and sorry to say, Pinnacle also. This codec is over 4 years old and used a lot in drones and GoPro types of gimbal cameras,
If there are any questions to this, please ask.
    Happy Flying and Stay Safe.

Yeah, who would have thought that it was so simple. I spent a lot of time searching through the forums here for h.265. Seems it's been a topic here for a long time. Came up with no answer, then installed DaVinci Resolve and it was the same i.e. missing offline media ect. So did a Google search (happy birthday Google - 25 years old this month) for Resolve h.265 and landed at that video in my first post.

Take care, and thanks for the response.

From Pinnacle's website and clicking on Tech Specs under Import Formats:

    HEVC** (H.265)

** HEVC (H.265) support requires supporting PC hardware or graphics card and Microsoft HEVC video extension installed.** HEVC (H.265) support requires supporting PC hardware or graphics card and Microsoft HEVC video extension installed.

Tried auto-import of some HEVC-coded files by creating a watchfolder - worked OK here.

I wonder if the failure you are experiencing is because there was an auto-import attempt made before installing the HEVC Video Extensions - the unsupported (HEVC-coded) files were ignored but that watchfolder was marked as having been scanned? Perhaps removing and re-creating that watchfolder will trigger Studio into re-scanning it and importing files that aren't already in the library?

    Thanks Tony P

Some how I missed that in all my searching. ( Microsoft HEVC video extension installed.) Yep that did the trick for me.

I can now import and work with MP4 with h.265 as a codec in Studio 23 Ultimate. Happy editor here.  ;-)

culplanr, I think you're correct, I had tried to get some material in before I got that codec from the 'Microsoft Store'

Funny and happy to report that today the watch folders work, as normal and some new material from my new DJI Air 2S came into Studio 23 with no problems.

Every thing is working correctly, Even applied the D-log LUT, that I got from DJI, and have applied it to some test material from the drone.

No fancy flying just a short camera and Pinnacle test up at YouTube.  4K 30/fps, 5300K, ISO 100, shutter: 1/60
