    Question About Missing Media

In PS 25U I open a movie project and get the following message:

Missing Media This project contains missing media. You can look them up at any time in the "Missing Media" section of the timeline or re-link them now. Do you want to re-link them now? Yes/No

What is meant by this 'Missing Media' section of the timeline and where can I find it?

    Re: Question About Missing Media

It went to look for a project asset like a video or photo and couldn't find it. Perhaps you moved it so it's offering too get a new location from you and it will start searching that for other missing media too. But perhaps you just forgot to plug in an external drive so you say no, fix that and open the project again.

Than message is very badly written. There is a Library Media category for Missing media, which will display if you use the context menu option "Find in Library" on a yellow clip, or have enable watchfolders.

You have deleted or moved one of the assets in the project.

    Re: Question About Missing Media

Oops, my message was not clear either. I knew that there were media missing due to the exclamation marks in the timeline. I was just wondering about this 'Missing Media' section.

Thanks for that clarification. Should be reported too, don't you think?

    Re: Question About Missing Media

I never understood why Pinnacle chose to hide by default the Library media category and therefore the Missing media sub-category.

    Re: Question About Missing Media

I must say that it took me quite a while to understand how this missing media stuff works. Still find it confusing. Indeed, why not make the button 'Library Media' visible?

I also don't get why when I do a 'Find in Library', the result is shown under the Library Media tab and not in the Project Bin that was open before that.

Indeed. I'm sick of asking that question, I first asked it when they introduced Project Bins, which just duplicate Collections.

I totally agree but if they get rid of one I hope they keep the attributes of Collections because Collection folders are carried over to new versions/upgrades of PS but Project Bins are not.

Corel are never going to remove features they have added themselves, even if they weren't their own idea :-)

Perhaps I misunderstand you but when I upgraded to v. 25, the Project Bins I had in v. 24 were there.

No you didn't misunderstand. When I upgraded to PS25 the PS24 Collections were transferred. I had to manually transfer the Project Bin items. That has always been the same for me ever since they introduced Project Bins. I also always have to manually add anything I have created (i.e. My Titles).

    Re: Question About Missing Media

Huh, strange as I didn't have to do all that. Did you export the Library settings before upgrading and then imported them?

    Re: Question About Missing Media

No I did not do that. I just installed the upgrade. Does backing up the library in the old version and restoring it in the new version work? It should. Never dawned on me to do that. I have copied the NGDatabase folder from the old version to the new version in the past but did not do that this time.

I use Control Panel/Reset and Backup/Backup Library.  No need to copy folders. I find this feature very useful, for instance for backing up different (sets of) Project Bins, so that when I revisit a project, I only have to restore that Library file. Avoids clutter. Of course, after a while, some assets have gone missing as I tend to move files and folders around. So I'm trying to find ways to quickly locate and relink them again (that's why I started this thread)

    Re: Question About Missing Media

I do backup feature periodically for safety reasons. Not sure why but I never thought about restoring the prior version backup in the new upgrade. Guess I wasn't thinking. i will try that a year from now. Thanks for the info.

    Re: Question About Missing Media

My collections were not transferred but 'my titles' were. This meant I had to re-select the titles that were in there and place them in the collections folders.

Did you save the Library settings before and then Restore them in the new version?
