    Pinnacle 24 Imported movie distorted

Second time of writing, this forum doesn't like images does it.

So importing some cine transfers with unusual sizes and 20 fps occasionally, not always, gives very strange results in P24.
The image is squashed and the framerate exports at about half what it should do.

Pinnacle 19 is fine, no problems, and most of the time 24 is also fine. Here is an image from P19 which shows how it should look.

And this is what I sometimes get in P24

As you can see, the preview image is squashed. It also outputs at a much lower frame rate, approx half.

    Any ideas?

First, about images. There is no problem uploading a SINGLE image as long as it isn't larger than 512kb. I've combined images with no problem.

    Here is HOW.

As for your .avi problem, how about posting what's inside with MediaInfo?  Drag video on top of MediaInfo and then View>Tree.

Copy/paste info to your reply post. It should work.

Note that you might have to use Handbrake to convert the files in question.

Hmm copy past images required a moderator to approve and then didn't show up.

All I can say is that Pinnacle 24 display information shows the vertical height of the film at half the value reported in media info.

I'll just keep using P19 when it happens.

I gave you a link on how to add a screen shot to your post, like this one....

And what does MediaInfo say about the video?  This is information that might help me or anyone else figure out what your problem is.

This along with what are your timeline and export settings.

This only happens sometimes, despite the films being the same, and P19 is fine, as is playing the film back with mplayer or similar, only ever seen this in P24

You have forgotten the MediaInfo information along with timeline and export settings in PS24.

1032 x 876 resolution, aspect ratio of 1.178, framerate of 20fps. Not surprising that Studio has difficulties to display it correctly.

None of these numbers are standard values.

Pinnacle 19 has no problems with it.

Double-click a thumbnail in the library. (1) Adjustments, set aspect ratio to PAL 4/3.

Once the footage inserted into the timeline, set project settings to 24 fps. It's the closer value to the original odd framerate that you can have.

Re: Pinnacle 24 Imported movie distorted

Thanks... I couldn't see the MediaInfo.

I agree with Saby, certainly a non-standard video in either resolution or framerate. I don't have PS19 installed on my computer, but do have 23 and 24, so can't comment on the clip working properly, so I take your word for it.

There are differences between 23/24 with past versions, this could be one of them.

Let us know if Saby's suggestion works. Curious as to where the video came from.

Transfer of VHS tapes or 8 mm/Super 8 films.

The footage is captured from an HD telecine machine. The odd size is because I used a region of interest capture to remove all the poor parts of the original cine footage. The framerate of 20 fps is the closest to the original cine footage of 18 fps I can get.

In P19, the footage aspect ratio is correct and the footage plays back at 25 fps looking right. In P24 the aspect ratio is wrong on the vertical dimension and plays back also at around half the captured framerate, I'm guess in 10fps and looks like jerky slow motion.

I have captured many other films at this size and framerate and P24 usually has no problems, occasionally it does, P19 does not have any issues with any size. So there is some change between the two iterations of the program that does not account for frame rates or dimensions. I should state it never had any issues until the last patch.

As my problem is very unique and specific to this type of footage transfer, I don't expect a solution from Pinnacle, I am just glad I kept P19 on my machine!

Thanks guys for attempting to help.
