This is a new area for me which is why I am seeking some advice. Someone has sent me an SD card containing many short video clips that he has taken using a Still Camera with a video facility, and the files (494 of them) are all .MTS. I am currently importing them into Studio 23 but, as I have never processed this type of file before I need some advice on the best and most appropriate file to output to, with the output destination being a memory stick. Any advice would be much appreciated.

What are the technical details of these files (resolution, framerate, scanning scheme, ... ) ?

A good export option could be H.264 .MP4, with same resolution, approximately same bitrate, same framerate but Progressive.

Thank you Yann. He has now told me that he does not require any editing of these files. Is it possible for me to simply copy the files on the SD straight over to a USB Stick for them to play in a smart tv or would these existing files not be recognised by the television?

I don't know about MTS files, but I've had no problems at all playing MP4 files from PS on my LG flat from a USB stick.

Who knows if the TV set will accept them ?

 

Bob, you could also batch process all the files with Handbrake too.

In case you would have to transcode them to MP4 files, do not re-encode them. Avidemux or Handbrake allow a directstream copy when passing from .mts to .mp4.

Thanks guys. Yann, you introduced me to Avidmux a while ago and it has been useful in re-processing some files that Studio did not like. I will try using it to transcode them.
