   What dual layer disk brand is everyone else using to burn 2hr movies in PS24?

For my vintage home movie conversions under 60min, I've been using Verbatim DVD-R without too many issues.

I've run into some disk player compatibility issues with the Verbatim DVD-DL (+R / -R), now looking for an alternative brand.

The more nickel or silver in color the data side of the disc is, the more compatible it will be.  A lot of players can't see discs with Blue or Purple on the data side.

I've mostly used the Verbatim DVD+R DL printable (no-id) (#43667) and had consistently good results from them. My burners also set the book type to DVD-ROM automatically for double-layer +R discs (which seems to work well for ancient players that don't directly recognise +R discs). I believe that double-layer -R are less well supported by older players...

I've also tried some cheaper Aone and Infinit brand in the past; I ended up throwing the Infiniti ones away as they were terrible (pretty much all failed to burn on layer 2) - the Aone discs burned and played OK, however the printable surface was quite poor and my Epson R265 didn't do a particularly good print job on them (but fine on the Verbatims). Only downside of the Verbatims is the price - getting a bit steep; nearly doubled in the last 3 years

Yes, prices have been creeping up on DVD-DL's to a point where maybe I should just start burning Blu-Ray discs...

Taiyo Yuden is a pretty good manufacture.  A lot of companies private label their discs.  Search for it and you well see.

FWIW - Taiyo Yuden left the consumer optical disc market a few years ago - IIRC TY-branded discs are now made by CMC (the ones I've used do seem to be sticking to the original TY recipe and work well). But I don't recall them ever making any double-layer DVDs.

I can believe that.  Last week, I burnt my first DVD and blu-ray in six years. Dvd's still worked, but the blu-rays wouldn't burn. They were about eight years old. Thouhht my burner died.  Had to buy a couple new maxell blu-ray discs from office depot, then they burned fine.
