Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

Not a newbie to Pinnacle installs, however after getting Studio 23 U. DVD yesterday and doing a standard all install, I feel like one.

After installing everything and letting it do the update, S23 would not start. Only after uninstalling everything and doing a new install, customizing .

Do I now have the product that I purchased, it is now at the 23.0.0.110 level that came on the DVD. I now hesitate to update it while it took sometime to clean it up for the 2nd install.

Haven't dug into the program to much, but have imported 30 minutes of DV material from an older Sony camcorder, set up watch folders, exported a 3 min 4K film from my Zino drone.

So more or less it is working I guess, but the program seems to have some bugs, that should have stopped the premature release, at least that when something as simple as Tool Tips not working,

One wonders what was going on during the beta testing. I should know a little about that, I was one of them from Studio 9 through Studio 16 and we never (Pinnacle of course) okayed so a buggy  release as I'm seeing on

That DVD that showed up in the post yesterday,   Plus, just had a look around these forums and it would seem Corel has turned beta testing over to its customers.

So back to my question, that is if anyone has read this far in my rant,  Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

PS, would like to say hello to any of you older beta testers, I am sure some of you are still around. This is my first post for awhile. ;-)

I'd wait a bit.... some people have had the issues you experienced (not me) along with working with MTS files, they lose audio.

There "should" be a hotfix to resolve these issues. So, wait. If it's working, don't fix what isn't broke.... Continue experimenting and exploring!

Re: Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

@Tony P, Thanks for the quick response. Absolutely correct. It's working to an extent. At first look, its very similar to Studio 16, however there are new features and possibilities.

That's where the missing of 'Tool Tips' from mouse over a button or menu really is a hindrance to the learning curve.  They work fine in other programs and Studio 16, also not a driver problem.

Once again, Thanks and yes, I can wait.

Ok... tool tips do work. Go to Setup>Control Panel>Legacy Options and you will see Tooltips with a button next to it. Make sure that the button is saying OFF. If it isn't and says ON, click on it.

You had the ability as a beta tester to veto a release?

Re: Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

I'd wait until they get the audio export issue fixed. It's a MESS.

I did a clean install of Windows 10 2004 (and the Pinnacle installer installed the latest version including the patch) and now I can't finish and export any projects until they get the audio fixed. I'm hoping for a hotfix as well...

Re: Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

@jjn, no, not directly and of course the final decision was by Pinnacle. However we were a very close bunch of testers, had our own private forum ect and we were sometimes very noisy and direct about the problems and bugs that we found. At least they, Pinnacle, gave us the feeling that our opinions meant something.

Re: Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

@ Tony P, thanks for the tip (pun intended) Man, they are big, easy to read with my old eyes. While I got you here. Is there a direct download page for these patches? Perhaps I got a corrupt one during the install.

It, the installer program, stopped and restarted during the download part about three times during the setup and update phase. It then left a folder on the desktop with the patch package in it.

Looked on the Corel(Pinnacle) site for a patch page for Studio 23, however as of now haven't found one.

... so what reasons do you have to assume that this is no longer the case?

It must be hard enough being a beta tester (for free) for Pinnacle as it is, without being blamed for the current state of Studio by ex-beta testers who worked under a different set of manangement (although presumably under the same NDA?).

As the program is loading, bottom left of the splash screen is the version number. If it is 23.2.1,297 you have the latest version. Also in Help (?) you can check the version number under About, and check for online updates manually. It will tell you if you don't have the latest. so there is no longer any need for a "Patch" web page.

The download files are deliberatly left on your desktop so you can back them up should you wish, thus enabling you to re-install without Internet access. The Install process tells you that.

As you say, the NDA thus I suggest we drop this topic, or al least move it to a PM, okay?

I state the version number in the first post, but here it is again.

Current running program is Studio 23 U version 23.0.0.110 (this is on the DVD)

...and you were asking where you could download the patch. If you are connected to the internet you will be prompted when a patch is available (you can control the frequency of the check), or can ask manually, via the help (?) menu. The only reason you would be told there was not one was if you were running the current version. Going to a webpage to find a patch is so 2010, don't your think?

Then you are not at liberty to discuss PS10, which was a complete basketcase when released and never got truly fixed?

Re: Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

Oh do I remember when S10 was released!!! There was a LOT of noise in this forum over it!

As for patches and downloads..... I would love to see it where you can download specific patches instead of everything rolled into one. Of course you would need to have installed or access to the first release. Sometimes patches do some things not intended and to go back to a previous build is difficult.

Plus, being able to uninstall a patch.

Both very valid requests, but add to the workload on support and the web team, which seems to be an important factor these days. I archive the patches locally now.

Re: Is 23.2.1.297 patch safe to install?

Maybe.... other NLE's have them on the website so you can do incremental patches if one that is installed introduces bugs.

Most users will not be archiving patches. And if you buy a d/l version that has the patch with something that causes issues for the user, then what?

I'm not saying its a good system. I'm saying it's cheap.

The last two patches have taught me not to trust future patches.  I am also very disappointed in this forum.  Today, I had the choice of either bumping a 7-day unanswered message that I posted in the 'Movie Editor' sub-forum that identified a serious issue with the rendering engine or the choice of taking this opportunity to suggest others avoid the patches we're discussing as highly toxic & ridden with serious bugs.

I have the latest patch. I edit MP4 from the cameras listed below. 50P and 4K. My videos are usually under 10 minutes.

Those that post and reply here in the forum do it voluntarily. No one is paid to do this as far as I know. I pick and choose what I answer, and over the years, I've answered and commented a lot.

You had a choice of either bumping a 7day unanswered message, and doing something else? Really? You can do both. That is a "choice". I haven't seen where anyone has had an "either/or" regarding posting.

    Maybe I misunderstood your text....

It's a user to user forum. Moderators are volunteers. So nobody here is bound to answer questions, even Moderators.

Would you remind me the last time you came here to help other members ?

So that's your best response? Nothing about this being a User to User forum? Nothing explaining why you are disappointed? Nothing about contacting Pinnacle directly about your issues?

What exactly did you expect to happen?
