No sound in new Pinn 23 install

I've downloaded and installed a trial vers of 23 on a new (for me) laptop.

The sample project plays with sound -- but my imported video does not.

This is 60P 1920/1080 video that has no troubles when edited in Pinn 19 on a different PC.

In control panel the default audio device shows the laptop's mic array (not speaker) -- but I can''t change it. Not sure if this is the cause of the trouble or not.

Likely not,  since the sample project is able to play sound properly.

    Any ideas ?

Re:No sound in new Pinn 23 install

If you're running PS23 on a Win7 and older machine and if your footage audio is AC3, this audio codec is no longer supported in PS23.

    It would work in Win10.

To make sure what audio codec is used you can use Mediainfo : http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/708486.aspx

Re: Re:No sound in new Pinn 23 install

thats disturbing -- the audio is apparently AC3.

Looks like I won't be upgrading from PS19.  When did AC3 stop being supported -- whats the last version that I could use ?

Why did they drop a standard audio codec ?  is there a work around ?

(My cameras only records in that format)

BTW -- these PCs all run Win 10.

If your PC is running Win10, it should work.

While PS23 playing this file without audio, would you make a screenshot of your Windows' audio mixer and post it here ?

having trouble posting a screen capture

In any event, I've now installed PS23 on a second laptop -- different model -- with same result.

All laptops are using a recent clean install of Win 10 (enterprise).

I can install PS19 if you like as a test.

Re: Re:No sound in new Pinn 23 install

Sorry, I missed that you were using trial version of Studio. That must be the origin of your pb.

The padlock icon on the thumbnail of your file in the library clearly shows that Studio can't read something in this file => AC-3 audio in your case.

Re: Re:No sound in new Pinn 23 install

So the trial vers of PS23 doesn't play sound on a standard video ??

The second laptop also shows a padlock icon for that video file. The video plays fine -- but no sound.

Unless I am misinterpreting things, that just seems utterly insane -- presumably Pinn would want to encourage users to edit for 30 days to audition their software.

There's no warning that the trial is intentionally crippled -- are you sure this is by design  ??

    Pinnuser-1998:

It doesn't play AC-3. It's a matter of royalties they have to pay to Dolby even on a version that you get for free.

Yes there are several warnings. But did you bother to read them when you downloaded it.
    Look at my previous post.

Pinnacle offers another solution to test their products => buy them, get access to the full features of the version you bought and take benefit of a 30 days money back guarantee if you're not happy.

Re: Re:No sound in new Pinn 23 install

I understand why they would'nt want to payout royalties for a codec used in a free trial.

What is not understandable is not generating a warning/explanation when the trial download's ac-3 audio didn't work.(I was left believing PS23 could not use that codec)

Re: Re:No sound in new Pinn 23 install

While the warnings that were clearly highlighted in Saby's post are general in nature, all one has to do is go to the pinnaclesys.com website and see in Tech Specs what is supported.
