    ps23 no sound

    What's the problem?
Pinnacle studio 23: only mp4 and flv videos are recorded in the source window or timeline. mts, mts2, mov, videos have no sound.
I looked at earlier versions of ps20, ps22 there is sound normally, but not ps23.
Anyone have any ideas? I tried to install it again, but I was not successful. Anyone know how to remove it to get everything out of ps23? Maybe it will be reinstalled.

    Re: ps23 no sound

Does the sample project (?>Load Sample movie) have sound? Does anything have sound?

Does the VU meter on the lower left show audio is being played?

Have you checked the little speaker icon on the Windows Taskbar. Right mouse click and select Volume Mixer and make sure the volume for PS23 is all the way up.

Also, in the Preview window in PS, there is a little speaker to control sound volume, make sure that it too is all the way up.

IF the sample project plays back fine, then there is something with the files you are using.

But we will wait and see what happens when you try these things first.

    Re: ps23 no sound

If you are running PS23 on a Win 7 computer and your videos are using Dolby Digital AC3, this audio codec is no longer supported with this version of Studio on this OS.

    Re: ps23 no sound

For about a month there was nothing wrong, it worked fine. All the things you've written so far I've done, but I'm going to make a little video to see what's wrong.
Here's the video. hope you can see. I've never done it before.
Mp4, flv videos have sound. None for mts, mts2, mov videos. Everything was fine yesterday, I haven't changed anything since. In ps22, everything works.

    Re: ps23 no sound

    1. give a shot of Mediainfo on a mts file with no audio and post here a screenshot of its tree view
    2. I don't know what external tool you are using to write your messages in this forum, but it results to a very unpleasant horizontal scrolling bar. Would you stop using this way to post ?

I'll make another video as you requested.
I hope my writing is better.

As forum Moderator Saby posted above, PLEASE CHANGE YOUR FONT TYPE.

What you have to do with MediaInfo is drag a video clip to it.

Select View>Tree from the top toolbar.

The File>Export>Text Tab and choose location to save it. Copy and paste to your next post.

    Re: ps23 no sound

So that's AC3 Dolby Digital and if you're running PS23 on a Win7 PC, Studio is no longer supporting this audio codec.

There is nothing you can do about it unless you use a Win 10 PC or use a previous version of Studio.

    Re: ps23 no sound

This is nonsense because I use this app on a laptop and have windows 7 on it too. Oh, and of course it worked on this computer for over a month. So there is no support for it.  However, why don't mov files have a sound? Laptop runs perfectly on ps23, not only on this machine, and uses other audio codecs. Something else could be wrong here.

supporting it then you need to resolve it to support it. Most of today's Sony cameras still record mts video with this audio codec. But as I wrote above, there might be another problem.

    Re: ps23 no sound

I have no explanations why the same footage used in PS23 on another Win7 machine might work. It's not supposed to be working in this case at all.

But based on the fact that Corel is writting in the software specs that Dolby Digital is needing Win 10 to work with PS23, you can't blame them that it is not working on this computer.

For the very same reason if they are using AC3.

    Re: ps23 no sound

But it was good for 1 month. most of my races have a bunch of mkv videos that recognize this codec that in theory ps23 is not. none will hide a picture. This can achieve a great return on what is really wrong. So I don't get the solution here. damage. I'll figure something out. There is no such thing as a feature going wrong in 1 month.

    Re: ps23 no sound

While I can understand your frustration with something that used to work that no longer is working (Windows updates can do a lot of things that affect software), but PS is not the blame here. There hasn't been an update for PS in more than a month, so it's something on your computer that is causing it. The supported formats have been there since day "1" of release. IF you managed to have things working, that is an unexpected bonus. But look at the specs on the PS website. It is not a theory, but facts on what the product has been tested to support.

I personally no longer have a Win7 machine.  If the sound works on your laptop, edit with it. If not, you can convert your files with HANDBRAKE to use another audio codec. There are several you can choose from if you have to after converting.

Take a short video and try it.

    Re: ps23 no sound

It is true that windows 7 released a last new update, it might have screwed up something. It would be nice to fix this in the next fix, because I'm not the only one who thinks I did. I haven't updated the windows on my laptop This might be a problem.

    Re: ps23 no sound

There is nothing to fix by Corel. It's not normal that PS23 could read AC3 audio on this computer.

    Re: ps23 no sound

I've always bought new versions since pinnacle 18 so far. I'm not planning on using windows 10 yet. So you advise me not to buy additional versions because my camera will not be able to play mts audio?
How to stay on ps22 from now on? It is bad enough if this remains so and the developers cannot find a solution.

Your camera "playing mts audio" ? You meant Studio playing the audio of the video files produced by your camera, right ?

    Andorpapa:

PS22 ? The title of your thread and your 1st post say that you're using PS23.

    Andorpapa:

It's not a bug, not a matter of what solution developpers might find out or not. It's a deliberate decision made by Corel to remove this codec in PS23 because of the royalties they have to pay to Dolby. In Win10, it's different. This OS natively can decode this codec, so PS23 can rely on this feature and Corel has not to pay for it.

    Re: ps23 no sound

Saby isn't advising anyone to buy or not buy anything. He is just pointing out what is supported and what isn't.

Support isn't going to change for Win7 and AC3 and are not looking for a "solution" for this. It's plain in the Specifications list that people will need Win10 for that support. Win7 is no longer supported by Microsoft, and because of that, I would guess that a lot of software will no longer support it either. Hard to provide support for something when the OS is no longer supported. Then tech support has to be both software and OS debuggers. Isn't going to happen. Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Win10, even after over 3 years of using it. I would much rather still have Win7. But technology moves on....
