Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
Currently I have PS 22 installed. I'm about to install PS23 but first want to uninstall in several old PS add-on packages that came with older PS Versions that are no longer needed. Attached I hope is what I have... what do I not need please? NOTE: Having problem uploading JPG... How do I upload a JPG? But I was able to grab the Uninstall prgram text.

Re: Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
Marv, Everything you list are provided in PS23 Ultimate. The cleanest way to uninstall applications is to use RevoUnnstaller. The free version does it well. From with in Revo, first select PS 22 and proceed to the end then same for all plugins that you showed. When using Revouninstaller, never exit out of it when the first phase, running the application uninstaller completes even it says it needs to reboot to complete. If you do, then (with the free version) it will not be able to proceed to find registry keys followed by folders (both of which were not included with the apps uninstaller) for you to check SELECT ALL followed by DELETE. Good Luck,

I do suggest that you uninstall nothing. All this material would be reinstalled by PS23. MarvNauman: NOTE: Having problem uploading JPG... How do I upload a JPG? But I was able to grab the Uninstall prgram text.

Saby and Marv, Marv included PS22 (the application itself). He wanted to uninstall that also. As for all the plug-ins and content, while yes, they would all be reinstalled. I saw no harm to do a clean out and start fresh with PS23. Lets rule out any issues with PS23 that might have someone point to remnants of an “old installation.” We read this often, I surely do things that way all the time. And for what it is worth, I offered the best way to install programs. That information will help Marv and anyone who reads this thread for uninstalling programs. I gathered that Marv did not know about Revo.

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
Thanks Saby & Iraisok. 1. I usually install the new version and make sure it works ok before uninstalling the previous version. 2. Thanks for the link to upload a jpg and that is essentially what I did, but I got an error that it was too long (Image was a screen grab of about 1.5 screen heights). However... my Snagit was able to grab the text out of the screen shot and in this case work better anyway.

Saba & Iraisok, Tough call... you both had good points. But because I had problems once before with a PS install I went with Saba recommendations and uninstalled nothing. Installed PS23. Installation went fine, and appears to work ok, but I did not test the effects. Opened up "Add remove Programs". Now I have 3 of all add-on's listed in my 1st post. Dates: 12/27/2019, 3/13/2019, 10/9/2017. Correct me if I'm wrong but looks like I use "Iraisok" Revo Uninstaller method to remove the old duplicate programs to get things straightened out and cleaned up... Correct? Everything before the install is backed up so I'm not worried if things go wrong.

Marv, My real name is Ira. My first attempt at replying dug into how to use Revo to clear out multiple installs and to determine if what you are seeing are multiple references to the same installed folder. Then I realized the very best approach at this point is for you to use Revo and uninstall ALL PS stuff starting with PS22 then PS23 then any/all plug-ins, ettc simply by right mousing on icon in list then go to installed folder. When done look in c:\User your login name and delete any Pinnacle folders that Revo didn’t. Next, install PS23 and see if you are smiling or crying. You know what to do if you are crying. It's time to tell you how I operate that you might too in the future. When I am about to install any complex program, I backup my C drive. Now, either clean out your current version or install the new one with the one you currently have. Either way, you could restore the backup image you created if you wanted to start over. I know you are in “clean-out mode” so only after you’ve totally cleaned out ALL PS, would I recommend to save a backup image and call it “a line in the sand.” Ira's Computer Maintenance Guide and Favorite Websites http://www.compuart.us/index.html Is a website I created to share my knowledge for all the good information others have shared. Item 8 in the Computer Maintenance section has my recommendation for a free backup utility that I have installed in computers with Win7, Win8:and Win10. While early on I zeroed in on Acronis (no free version), Macrum Reflect Free is just as good and has never failed. I am not associated with the company... just sharing good stuff. Finally, prepare to receive other ideas from people on how to resolve your problem. Evaluate what is best to return your PC to a known state. You don’t want to be spinning your wheels. Trust me. Good Luck,

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
I've been a Revo Pro user for years. And while I have never in my 30 years of computing backed up a hard drive "just in case", that's just "me". I've used Revo to "fix" some issues I had with Pinnacle. I let it remove everything. Instead of using Moderate, I used Advance. I always look through the log before clicking Delete. Then when that is done, Cclearner registry cleaner to find any leftovers. Then as Ira wrote, delete Pinnacle folders that can still be left in this location: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local Also check these locations for possible stray leftover folders: C:\Program Files C:\ProgramData, C:\Program Files (x86), C:\Users\UserName\Documents, and C:\Users\Public making sure there are no Pinnacle folders. Revo should take care of most of them, but you never know. Then you can do a "clean" install of PS.

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
Thank you Ira & Tony, for the detailed procedure and stray folders list... much appreciated. Sounds like good advise for any updates I do... and as a photographer by trade I have a lot of high end programs I have to upgrade so this will come in handy... well most of the time as I usually have to leave the old version active or the new update install will not install unless it can see I own a legit active version. Hence I then uninstall the old version after a successful update install. Or is this method no longer true...???

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
You can do an install of PS23 and then follow all the deletion suggestions above. If there is a problem, you can use Windows 10 Programs and Features. Then you can Uninstall PS23 and you "should" get the option to Repair or Modify. Something like that. Me? I install and wait before uninstalling previous versions until the upgrade is stable on my computer. Then I will start the uninstall process.

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
I have been using Revo Pro for many years, too! Yes, Revo plus a few folder deletions/checks are wise. However, if you REALLY want to return to a baseline, CREATE THE BASELINE BEFORE INSTALLING COMPLEX APPLICATIONS. Of course, Revo with a bit of smarts is fantastic. I can count on one hand when I needed to restore an image because either I did NOT want to spend the time to analyze how to fix something or when I had an oddball situation where my PC would not boot to Windows. I hate not ABSOLUTELY knowing if my configuration is where it was when returning from an “ah ***!” Restoring a backup image gets you back, for sure! Tony, I also recall you saying how bloated (my words) your c drive is, making it uncomfortable to spend the time to restore. I operate differently keeping only the essentials on c drive and NEVER media on that drive. Yep, you have loads of PS installations. That's not the case for most of us so. My suggestion to Marv with his current issue AND for everyone before installing complex applications backup your c drive and I mean to use an application that will restore it completely, not just a registry backup or Restore Point provided by Windows. And be sure that using the Rescue Media that you should create is verified to get you to an image if ever needed. These discussions are interesting. Hearing different approaches are useful. Happy New Year to All and to All thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
UPDATE: Did a complete uninstall of all PS stuff & File search as Ira suggested... and reinstalled PS23 Ultimate using the default install just like before. Both PS23 & PS My DVD open and look like they should work... with one exception. When I first loaded PS23 the first time (before uninstalling everything) and opened it up the NEW project file The-Sky-is-the-Limit automatically opened up on the Time Line and you could see how they did all the special effects. However, upon the Uninstall of everything and the reinstall of PS23... PS23 opened up to a blank time line. The finished OLD The-Sky-is-the-Limit movie with out the new special effects was in the Project Bin... but not the Time Line. I checked and I am definitely running PS 23 23.1.1.242 (64bit). I had planned to examine that as a training tool for me...What happened... ?

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
Ira, I too have a dual drive and use C Drive only for the programs, and use the 2nd Drive for the media. Both Drives are SSD's. Makes finding my Media & media house cleaning so much easier and Backups are a breeze.

It's normal. After 1st install of Studio, once opened up, it loads up The Sky Is The Limit sample project. If you uninstall it and then reinstall it, it doesn't reset the software => the next "1st" launch of Studio is not really the "1st" launch and The Sky Is The Limit is not loaded up by default and the corresponding video file is actually present in the library.

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
The new "The Sky is the limit" has flying 3D titles and Composite video at the end. The real question is... How do I get the 1st PS 23 load up back on the timeline... so I can save it as a project and play with it?

I suspect that what was being interpreted as "OLD" is actually the source video file (the-sky-is-the-limit.mpg) and not the project file. I am unaware of any changes to the project file itself (same as the one first released with Avid Studio - and still has a few Red Giant (Knoll Light Factory) lens-flare effects in it)! Regards, Richard

Re: Re:Install PS22 what to uninstall in several old Versions?
Reread Saby and my last post above. We got it figured out and now I get the Composites and flying 3D titles at the end of the video that show off PS23 new features. The "new" Video we should probably call Ver 23. Hope this clarifies.
