Old Film Sound Goes Out Of Sync On Export

I recently downloaded an old black and white film which is a particular favourite of mine and is now in the public domain. I tried to output it to DVD but when I played it back, the soundtrack when out of sync around half way through. I though it might just have been a glitch and so downloaded the file again to try once more, with the same result. The soundtrack was fine the entire length when played back on the timeline and so it was something in the export process that studio did not seem to like. The file was an mp4 wrapped one. I tried exporting to a file to see if that would make a difference but it also went out of sync.

In each of the three attempts, the film went out of sync at different times.

Does anyone have any idea as to how I might be able to successfully process this film onto a DVD?

Someone else just had this same problem.  I believe it was an issue with the source file.  Search the forum.   I believe the solution was to re-encode the source with handbrake before placing it on the timeline.

Give a shot of Media info to this mp4 and post here a screenshot of Mediainfo tree view.

Whenever I seem to have a video that just doesn't want to work properly, I use Handbrake to convert it and all is well.

What do you convert it to Tony?

With HANDBRAKE in the Video tab, I use H264, whatever fps the video is, and tick Constant Framerate. I never bother much with the Quality settings.

It keeps telling me I must scan it and set the source. How do I do this? I have not used Handbrake before and have been unable to access the user manual.

Re: Re:Old Film Sound Goes Out Of Sync On Export

Okay, I think I have worked out how to use Handbrake and have managed to output a file. I am currently outputting a DVD from it to see if the 'out of sync' is resolved.

Thanks for your help guys. Using Handbrake did the trick. The film is now in perfect sync.

Re: Re:Old Film Sound Goes Out Of Sync On Export

Glad to hear everything is synced now.

Whenever I have a problematic video, I convert using Handbrake and that solves the problem.

To anyone else following this thread, Handbrake is free and is sort of a "defacto standard" in doing this type of file conversion.

My request remains valid, just to try to understand what was wrong with this file.

I am having a problem in getting the screenshot to upload to here. Each time it gets to 100% and then gives out the 'Oops , something went wrong' message. I will try again later.

Re: Re:Old Film Sound Goes Out Of Sync On Export

I can only think that the bmp file that I am trying to upload exceeds the maximum for this forum at 5.93mg. All I did was to do a screenshot and then save as a bmp file. Is there a way of reducing the size so that it is acceptable?

Re: Re:Old Film Sound Goes Out Of Sync On Export

The maximum file size is 512 kB.

Use jpg instead of bmp which is uncompressed and reduce image size.

    Ok, thanks.

No obvious reason that this file may create troubles in Studio.
