Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

    Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Because of the noticeably slow rendering speed of PS23, I decided on my latest project to use the best bits of both PS22 and PS23. My initial preparation was all done in PS23 and once I had reviewed my footage, opened the project in PS22 to refine some titles and transitions. The next day, I opened the project in PS23 to permit the faster rendering it gives, prior to doing my voice over. I always allow full rendering before doing a voice over as unless the project is fully rendered, the picture is a little jerky in places which tends to make the voice over difficult.

When rendering was completed I found that there was no sound. The tracks were not muted in Studio. I checked all of the usual things on my computer but found nothing untoward. I then decided to see if I still had sound in PS22 and miraculously, I did. It looks as though I will have to abandon using PS23 as overall, a faster completion can be made in PS22.

    Hi Bob.

Check the type of source video files used.  If AVCHD with AAC audio the sound will only play in Windows 10 for PS23.  May explain why audio plays in PS22 and not in PS23.

    Hi Traveller

This is not the issue as I have been using the same video files from my camera in both versions of the program and if operated soley within either version there is no problem. It is only when combining them that the issue appears.

A little contradiction in your post.

You mention that PS23 is noticeably slower in rendering, then use PS23 for faster rendering it gives...... which is faster and by how much?

Since PS23 has all the features of PS22 plus more, why not do the entire project in PS23? I am not quite following your workflow what exactly you did to wind up having no sound in the exported PS23 movie.

    Re: Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Sorry Tony.  I should have said that DVD output is much slower in PS23 whilst rendering is faster. My workflow in a nutshell was to prepare the project ready for the voice over stage with a few graphics inserted. These are the standard ones required for every football match. I then have to look through the footage to identify times when goals are scored (and insert replays and score lower thirds) and when bookings or substitutions are made and insert graphics for these. The easiest way of doing that is to output an RW DVD and watch it in front of a TV whilst making notes of events/timings. I therefore switch to PS22 for this.

Once I have done that, I then create the graphics concerned. Under normal circumstances I would then wait for the entire project to render prior to doing the voice over. This was going to do in PS23 but there was no sound, not at the output stage but on the timeline footage. It is difficult to do a voice over without the ambient sound being present which is why I switched bacck to PS22, where the timeline sound was present.

I hope this makes it clearer.

    Re: Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Understood. I haven't burned a DVD in years so can not comment on it's speed in PS23 or PS22 for that matter.

If I understand you correctly, you create a DVD in PS22 that you play on your TV and take notes on where events happen? And then bring the DVD into PS23 where there is no audio?

My very recent experience .... I came back from Uganda and had a DVD with a group performing. I wanted to include that in my video. IIRC, I couldn't get audio although I had video in both PS22 and PS23.

I only did one song, and using Handbrake got it working in PS23.

Mpeg2 export in PS23 is actually slower than PS22.

    Re: Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Yes Yann, that is what I have said. That is the reason I use PS22 for the burning of both the review DVD and the final output DVD.

Tony. I don't import the DVD into the other program but the project itself.

    Re: Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Just as further confirmation, I have just opened the finished timeline project from PS22, complete with voice over track, into PS23 and there is no sound either on the original clips or on the voice over.

    Re: Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Can you export a short part of your video in PS22, try it in PS23, and if there is no audio, can you upload it to the cloud? It doesn't have to be a large file.

    Re: Interchanging PS22 & PS23 Causes Problem

Problem solved Tony. I had recently needed to do a reset of Studio 23 in order to get everything working correctly. What I had failed to notice as I don't recall it happening before is that the system volume in PS23 had defaulted to 'mute'. Funny how one forgets to look at the simply solutions first.

Glad to hear everything is working out now!

It's sometimes the little things we do overlook and forget!

    It's not normal.

No Yann, which is why I failed to look at that as the issue originally. It was only when I began to think a little more laterally that it occurred to me to look.
