Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

I have Pinnacle Studio Plus 12, Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate Collection 14, and Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate 15 running on my computer. Several months ago all three applications starting exhibiting a behavior I don't know how to correct.

When I open a saved Studio Project (*.stx) authored in any of the applications, I get a large blue exclamation point in the Preview Window and large blue Question Marks in the Timeline video scenes.

The same is true when I try to start a new project. After going to File>New Project and importing video clips and photos, they immediately show the same behavior.

Attached to this Post is a screenshot of Studio 15 however it's the same in the other 2 applications.

How can I correct this situation.

Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

This means that the assets present in this project are no longer at their original location (the place where they were located when you last saved this project).

When you open the project, a dialog box should be displayed asking you to relocate the new path of these assets.

Re: Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

The situation you describe may be true with saved projects but why does it happen when you try to start a New Project.

I have not experienced a dialog box opening asking me to relocate the assets. That would be great if it did. Adobe Lightroom perpetual version have that feature and I've used it numerous times when I have moved files after installing large storage hard drives.

Is what you describe a setting in Project Preferences although I haven't been able to find such a setting.

As I mentioned in my other post this situation caused me to buy Pinnacle Studio 22 because I was trying to build a New Project and was using clips I recently took possession of.

I even tried bring some of the old video clips and photos into a New Project and got the same blue exclamation points and question marks. What surprised me was the videos played correctly in several players therefore telling me the videos were okay.

I already tried a Repair twice and another reason I went ahead and bought Studio 22.

Re: Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

I considered reinstalling the software but rejected it in favor of purchasing Studio 22 and here is why.

First I have to explain I use 2 separate computers to do my photography. My main machine where I run Studio 12 and 15 has a Asus P8 Z77-Vpro motherboard which has an Integrated Graphics Processor with Intel HD Graphics Support. You will see in a minute why this is important.

In November 2010 when I already had Studio 12 installed on this machine, I purchased and tried to install Studio 14 which would not install because Studio 14 did not support the Intel Graphics Card. I even tried updating the graphic processor however Studio 14 still would not run on this machine. I continued using Studio 12 with the activation keys I had purchased until September 2011 when I purchased and installed Studio 15.

Earlier this year when the problem first surfaced with Studio 15, I resorted back to Studio 12, since it was still on my machine, and it ran perfectly until June of this year. In June Studio 12 began to exhibit the same behavior as Studio 15 so I installed Studio 14 on my alternate computer which has a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard with a HIS HD4650 Graphics Card.

The install was successful however when I tried to recover my purchased activation keys I found out Corel no longer had access to the keys. With that the case I was unable to install and activate my purchased activation keys. That was the stimulus that made me purchased Studio 22 in July 2019. It also soured me because one month later Studio 23 was released and my software is out of date. Yes I purchased Studio 22 from Corel and no they will not do anything about it.

That is the reason I decided not to delete and reinstall Studio 12 and/or Studio 15. If I did I would be unable to download and reinstall my purchased activation keys so what's the use.

Based on your much appreciated attempt to help me, I will just have to let the software continue to be unusable with an eye towards uninstalling both applications later this year

    Thanks gain saby.

I will try tomorrow to uninstall both applications then reinstall.

In fact what would be your suggestion. Should I just go ahead and run the CD and install over the old folder or should I first uninstall then reinstall?

Thanks. I downloaded Regdelete and will uninstall Studio 12& 15 later this evening or tomorrow.

I will get back to you as soon as I reinstall and let you know the status.

    Thanks again.

Re: Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

    saby,

Quick update. I'm unable to uninstall Studio 15. I've tried twice and each time I get a dialog warning that the configuration data is corrupt and it terminates when I click Ok. I even used Revo Uninstaller in an attempt to remove the application however the same dialog appears. Any suggestions on how to get around this issue?

After trying to uninstall Studio 15 without success I was able to uninstall Studio 12 without any difficulty.

I've attached a jpeg of the warning to this message.

Re: Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

    saby,

I tried again this morning to uninstall Studio 15. After doing some research on "How to Uninstall Studio 15" I came upon this article https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/articles/215911428-Uninstall-and-Reinstall-Instructions-for-Studio-14-and-15  in the Corel Knowledge Base.  After reading and skipping Section 1 I went to Section 2 and read the steps before attempting to follow them.

The first thing I noticed was when I looked at Section 2>Step 4 there was no Studio 15 folder in C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\. However before preceding to Section 2>Step 5 I decided to look in Program Files (i386) and I found a bunch of Folders as you can see in the attached JPEG.

One of the first thing that came to my attention was Studio 12 & 14 have been removed from my machine yet there are folders for each still in  Program Files (i386). The next thing I noticed was a Studio 15 folder existed in Program Files (i386) even though there was none in Program Files.

When I looked at Section 2>Step 5 and performed a search for a "Pixie" file I found several including one for Studio 22. At this point I terminated the Uninstall instructions without actually making any changes as those spelled out in the article.

Again I ask for your expert advise before I do anything that will really destroy what you were trying to have me accomplish.

Re: Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

    Saby,

Since I have been unable to uninstall Pinnacle studio using normal procedures, what would be the outcome if I ran Regdelete as you suggest then delete all of the folders associated with Pinnacle Studio 12, 14, and 15.

I also have a concern about using this procedure since I also have Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate installed. Will running Regdelete affect Studio 22?

Re: Re:Saved or New Studio Projects won't load

Not really. Do you have any suggestions on how to uninstall Studio 14. It won't uninstall using the Windows Control Panel or the Pinnacle Studio 15 DVD. I get the messages "corrupt configuration data" and "resource unavailable" even though the DVD is in the drive and the drive is accessible.

What suggestions do you have for removing Studio 15?

    I'm at my wits end.

If you're still feeling adventurous and you're confident you know what you're doing ( Wink ) you could try deleting Windows' record that Studio 15 was installed from the registry using Regedit.

You should find that record in the registry here (for an installation under Windows 10 64 bit):
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{1362E602-9625-42D3-B57F-CDA9D26F9DA8}

Note that on 64 bit versions of Windows the record is under the WOW6432Node branch as Studio 15 is a 32 bit app

That GUID value at the end of the Regrstry path might be different on your system, according to whether that was fixed by Studio 15's installer or generated by your computer at install-time. But under whatever key you should see a bunch of values similar to what I've shown in my screen-grab (confirming that the key is related to Studio 15 and not some other app)

Suggestion: Use Regedit to export that branch (the key + all the values under it) sa a .reg file (so you have a backup with which to put the data back if things don't work), then delete that key + the values. Reboot, and Studio 15 should have disappeared from the list of installed apps, and you should be able to reinstall it from the install DVD (or if you're trying to permanently remove it, manually search for and remove any stray folders and files bvelinging to it).

    HTH
    Richard
