    Cineform and colour grading

    Hi,

I have been sticking with Studio 16 because of the grading tools the "Looks" offers. The new tools that 22 offers had me make the jump and I have been quite impressed except for one issue. I can now import Cineform files which work perfectly except when colour grading which causes a degraded film strip like image in the tab. The timeline will refect the changes fine and it will render properly but I can't see changes as I make them. This problem appears with both Nvidia and Intel graphics. Does anyone have a configuration where this problem doesn't occur? Thanks very much!

    Re: Cineform and colour grading

I have no Cineform files to test, but my computer is all AMD so I have to choose NONE for hardware acceleration.

    Have you tried that?

    Hello,

Are you running 22.3 version ?

Some improvements have been made around Color grading and specifically preview.

    Hi,

Thank you both for your excellent suggestions but I confirmed I have the latest version and turning off hardware acceleration did not fix the problem. I will probably keep 22 despite this even though I have to do a clunky workaround and hope that it eventually becomes possible to use Cineform files in the color tab properly. Thanks again for the help!

    Re: Re:Cineform and colour grading

Would it be possible to upload a small sample cineform file to the cloud so I can download and see what happens?

    Yes, good request.

Would be helpful too if we need to make a bug report to Corel.

    Hi saby and Tony P,

I really appreciate your kind offer to test the file on your system. I have uploaded a file to Google docs that you can hopefully download and see if you get the same results as me. As I mentioned, I think the new grading tools have been very well implemented and will hopefully work correctly with Cineform files in the future. Here is the link

    Thanks again!

    Best regards,

    Re: Re:Cineform and colour grading

Ok... here is what I see.

Clip plays back on timeline perfectly. When I go to Editor>Color, that is when I see the distorted view of the clip. While I can color correct the clip, I have to switch to the Timeline Preview to see the entire clip.

    See screenshot below.

    Saby?

    Re: Re:Cineform and colour grading

    Ok, problem reproduced too.

It's actually a matter of preview.

Immediatly after any color grading effect applied I see the stripes. But as soon as I move the timeline scrubber, preview is switched to Timeline and the color grading modification is applied. Export is correct.

    Hi,

Thank you both for confirming the issue. Wishful thinking, but any chance this has been fixed in the new Studio 23?

    Thanks again!

    Re: Re:Cineform and colour grading

Ok... just downloaded PS23 and tried your Cineform file.

So far, it's working ok. There is none of the problems in the Color Grading preview window like I posted above.

Not sure if there is a trial version yet, but for me, so far so good!

Now to try out the new masking feature.

    Re: Re:Cineform and colour grading

    Hi Tony P,

Thank you so much for trying that out. That is awesome news about the preview pane and Cineform files!

Off to buy version 23. Thanks again!

    Best regards,

    Dan
