How do I simplify the Library ??

is there anyway to make the "library" work like EVERY other file manager works ?

I want to be able to import files and see them in a detailed list -- a list I can then sort by dates modified; by name; by size -- you know, like how every standard file manager has worked since at least the launch of Windows vers 1.

How do I do this ?

Clarifying  further, one of the primary reason I want a detailed list format is that I write useful descriptive info into the file names of clips.

I need to be able to read the full name line.  Large icons maybe colorful, but they are of marginal informational value.

yes thanks, I had found it already based on an earlier thread. i never would have seen the shortcut icon unless it had been described (poorly) by somebody else.

BTW, how do I edit an existing post ? this option is no longer visible to me

The User manual shoud be your best friend.

Didn't find it in the manual.

In any case, I suspect my use of the "library" is somewhat irregular compared to how most others use it.

I want both written text that generally describes what's in a larger file (i.e.:  B-roll Lyndi dancing; Peter tuning his violin; young girl making salad)

And importantly, I also use the detect scenes tool -- to create a sequential film strip that reveals at a glance the specific content of those files -- allowing me to quickly find / navigate to particular elements within those clips.

Seems that it's no longer possible. I've warned the administrator of the forum about it.

In PS21. how to change back from Details View please. Clicking on the highlighted button shown above does not work. Also, in the first attachment showing Details View, when all of the headings (Name, File Size, File Type etc) are present, the relevant columns/data line up. However, as in the attachment in which the column heading File Size has been deselected, the relevant columns/data do not line up. Is there a fix for these please?

    Darcon,

If you want Thumbnail view just click on the Thumbnail icon which is beside the Details icon. With regards to lining up your data, just move your column headings. You can also widen and shrink them.

    No problem,

In my opinion, Pinnacle Studio has one of the most comprehensive asset management library systems integrated into a video editor. You can create Project bins, but also Collections and collections within Collections. Your clips can have tags and a star rating. You can change the caption name and add a comment if you like. You can search and sort on all this criteria. You can enable watch folders and have your videos automatically added to your library as you transfer them from your camera. With version 24 you can now back up and restore your library. With all this functionality, this is more than what Window's Explorer can offer. To say the least, I am very impressed with Pinnacle's Library system.
