How can I delete a clip, close gap, and keep everything else in sync?

How can I delete a clip, close gap, and keep everything else in sync?

I think that it may have something to do with smart editing as in the manual page 53 "Five choices of editing mode are available: Smart Editing, Insert and Overwrite, 3-4 Point Edit, Replace." But I've tried all five smart editing modes and still closing the gap in A/V track 2 puts the video clip(s) out of sync with the title tracks in A/V track 1.

This is what I do in versions up to 21.5.  I put the timeline edit mode in overwrite(Downward arrow). I shift-Ctrl click on the clip to the right of the edit to select all to the right.  I move the selected clips to the right, away from the edit.  I make my adjustments to the hanging(left) clip.  I then Shift-Ctrl click on the clips I moved to the right, selecting them.  With the magnetic snap on, I drag the clips back to the left and snap them to my edited clip.

Would you post a screenshot of what your timeline looks like in the area of the clip that you try to delete ?

Re: I make my adjustments to the hanging(left) clip.

I'm assuming that you edit the left clip to fill the space previously created by the deleted clip.  That works but I'd rather not make clips (the expanded ones) longer than intended.

    ADDED LATER:

Oh.  Okay.  Now I get it and it works.  Initially I only grabbed the clips on Track 2.  If I grab all clips and shift them left to fill the gap it gives the desired effect.

No, i change the length of the left clip all the time.  Everything to the right stays in sync when snapped back against the left hanging clip.

I've reproduced your timeline for the purpose of my demonstration.

1st part of my video, I show the wrong method (selet clip, delete it, close gap => titles are no longer in sync)

2nd part of my video, I show one correct method (add 3 trim points, trim to the left the right side of the clip that I want to delete => titles are still in sync)
