    Text Crispness

I have some bulleted notes flying in onto 1/2 of screen, Times New Roman and Font Size = 20, in the most-basic, '01' Title . The crispness of the text is poor, while the HD video next to it is crystal clear.  This condition happens both in the editor, as well as in HD1080p and 1920x1080 MP4 exports  I've tried other fonts also. I've tried importing MP4 videos produced via Powerpoint, but that's even worse.  Any ideas?

    Re:Text Crispness

Complaints like yours about titler creating soft titles have been existing since the beginning of motion titler, years ago. Since them no improvement.

A workaround : add a 1-2 pixels thick edge to your letters.

    Re: Text Crispness

    Hammy,

    Visit Borisfx.com

Download Boris Graffiti 6. There's a Corel VideoStudio & Pinnacle Studio version in 32 and 64 bit depending on your system. I believe the versions listed as All Hosts work too.

You'll need to register a new account to get the download file. Copy & paste the BorisGraffitiUI.fex & .xml files into Studio's plugins/RTFX folder. Boris Graffiti Titler will then appear under Effects add-ons in Studio.

It's incredibly powerful and will output the Super Sugar Crisp (60's breakfast cereal reference) broadcast quality text you desire.

Check out the tutorials by a bloke named Gripps on YouTube to get yourself up and running. Watch the first 10 seconds of his Scatter Effect tutorial before you do anything else to get an idea of the plugins capabilities.

Boris Graffiti 5 was included with Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate and it works in Studio 20 too. So have a free trial once you register.

You could pickup a copy of Studio 12 Ultimate on ebay for cheap. That will install BG5. You can uninstall 12 after pasting the 2 files named above in your current Studio folder.

    Have fun!

Thanks Paul! Worked like a charm and working in PS20!!

Downloading the 64bit version installed it into PS18U. I copied the files to PS20 and it works great. Now, to get into using this program more!

    Re: Text Crispness

Everyone knows they're never fixing the text problem so lets hope it remains compatible.

I figured Hammy would be happy to know going forward.

I still have 3 tutorials I printed out July 5th lying on the table to do on Graffiti. They're for the standalone version and it took me a while to get it working and never got back to the tutorials.

I just finished a slideshow in ProShow Producer. I kept thinking " why on earth can't they get Studio to output photos, graphics, and text at this quality". Pristine that would be. A 35 minute production that's pixel perfect from start to finish. Granted it's photos and not video but the output is an mp4 file. My girl is going to love it I'm sure. FLW's.

Now I'm going to tackle the less than magnificent SD video from the wedding in a grunged up concept video.

OT I got a Hahnel like yours. I love it as much as you said I would and more.

Favorite feature: the little silver thumbscrew turning tab on the quick release adapter. Genius. Pure genius.

Do you carry it in the canvas bag and then bungy it to your bike? I already broke the plastic clasp on the strap and attached a snap ring for the strap. It's too short to sling it across my back.

    Re: Text Crispness

Pity it can't be used as the menu editor... I notice the lack of sharpness much more with menus than I do with titles Sad

But may give the trial a go (I have PS12 Ultimate and have the older version 5 installed in PS12, Avid Studio and PS16...

    Regards,
    Richard

    Re: Text Crispness

It's not a trial per se. I talked to someone at BorisFX and they suggested I use the version 6 all hosts download for Studio. It's fully functional. I do also have Corel VideoStudio Pro X8 which comes with Boris 7 as a plugin maybe that's why.

I agree the menu text is the worst.

I think you are right - your existing licence in VSP X8 is why it works as a full-version in Pinnacle Studio too. I would not expect my existing licence for the older version 5 to magically unlock any later version (but if I then went to purchase/activate I might possibly get shown an "upgrade" price instead of a "new user" price...

FWIW I found Graffiti 5 a bit fiddly if I wanted to create scrolling tables of results (in fact fiddly if I was trying to create anything with more than 2 or 3 columns); I found Heroglyph and PS14's classic title editor much more intuitive. And the current motion titler in Studio itself simply chokes if I try to create a complex rolling title of more than a couple of screenfuls.

    Regards,
    Richard

    Re: Text Crispness

One of my (and many others) feature requests was for a better titler. Heck, I would have been happy with Title Deko Pro, but that's not in the picture right now. So, I figured since Corel has hooks into both NewBlue and Boris, we might get one of them into Pinnacle.

But so far... it's a no go. Now, I can't say if they will ever improve the title editor/program (and I do like the motion titles), only time will tell if it will happen. For "me", it's one of the few remaining requests that I have. Well, I have a few more, but a title program will help a lot!

Right now, I have Boris 6.6 64bit installed into PS18-20U. Since I have VideoStudio Pro X4U, 5U, 6U, 7Uand 9U (which uses Boris 7), I didn't have to register at all and Boris is fully functional! It said something about license from Corel. Geez... I could have done this a long time ago and have better looking titles.

I don't do DVD much at all, but the ones I have done surely would have benefited with better menus.

That's the only reason why it is working.

I apologize. Clearly remiss on my part as that's where I found the link for the plugin in the first place.

Sorry Yann and thanks for posting the link in this thread as well.

    Re: Text Crispness

OT on the Hahnel. Yes, it is the fluid head tripod I take with me when I go out and am traveling. While not carbon fiber, it certainly doesn't cost as much either. To add additional weight for stability, I place my camera backpack on the center pole hook. It works really great. As for the provided canvas bag, I've traveled so much with this tripod, the bag is wearing out. I have a tripod holder on my backpack so that's where it goes most of the time now without the canvas bag. Either that, or it goes on the bike rack on the back in the canvas bag, which can be a rough ride for it considering I go "off road" a lot. The strap is still good since I only placed it over one shoulder and not across my back.

I've had this tripod for 3 years now and do not regret buying it for one moment. Glad you like it too!
