Considering a new version of Studio

Remember I posted this thread inquiring about my activation keys for PS9 only to find out it's no longer being supported? One of the add-ons that I purchased an activation key for in the past is "HFX Plus to Mega" which unlocks all of the transitions that can be used between frames and I have unfinished projects that I worked on in Studio 9. If I import an STU file of an unfinished project into a new version of Studio will I be able to use any locked transitions that I put into this project before my support for PS9 ended?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to import an S9 .stu file into any newer version of Studio.  S19 can only import stx project files which began with S10 I believe.  I think the current versions already contain all HFX transitions although maybe not any special packs that may have been purchased.

Re: Considering a new version of Studio

I believe that the set of HollywoodFX transitions included in Studio 19 Plus and Ultimate versions does include all of those that were in Studio 9 Plus + a fair few more. And the "HFX Creator" tool is also fully "unlocked" - equivalent of the "HFX Mega" level in Studio 9.

As recent versions of Studio can't import the .stu files belonging to Studio 9, one "manual method" of migrating those projects would be to open them in Studio 9 and take screen shots of the timeline + copy/paste the contents of the timeline "text view" into a text file. Then use those screen shots + clip length information etc. in the text file to help you build a new "lookalike" project in Studio 19.

    Regards,
    Richard

In Studio 19 will I be able to create a new project in fullscreen format or import AVIs/MPGs that were made in fullscreen? I know that in Studio 9 you could choose the aspect ratio of your project.

    Re:

My dad said he was looking online this morning and searched "import stu file." He found this site:

    http://www.reviversoft.com/file-extensions/STU

It says that “Pinnacle Studio HD 15” will open a stu file.

At http://pinnacle-studio.soft32.com/ you can download the program for a free trial. Do you think it would be worth a try?

If this method will work could I open my STU file in "Studio HD 15" and save it as an STX then open it in Studio 19?

    That's a warez website !

You should not download the software from this site !!!!

    Re: Re:

But, yes, you can open a STU file in S15 and save it as a STX file which can be opened in S19.  (The conversion may not be perfect, depending on the effects that are used.)  However, heed saby's advice and do not download a copy from an unscrupulous warez site.  You can buy a copy on ebay for about 20 bucks.

    gjslaw,

When opening the link you provided it says they do not ship to Canada, but my dad said he checked on eBay and there are other version 15 copies that do ship to Canada. He asked me if he should order one.

    Re:

I suggest you ask to the seller if the copy has not yet been registered by a previous owner in Pinnacle's database.

    Re:

The sellers on Ebay state they are in the original packaging and have never been opened.  They have good ebay ratings so they must be honest.

    Re: Re:

Sellers with multiple copies on ebay pretty much guarantees that they have new unopened packages with proper licenses available.  If the item is not as advertised, ebay, Paypal or your credit card company will probably take care of any problem.

Note that Pinnacle no longer supports the program so you may not be able to register it.  However, it should work OK.

Even if they no longer support it, the registration window will show up before the sofwtare installation actually starts up. Read this old tuto.

    Re:

My dad ordered one of the copies of Studio 15 last night from eBay but when he checked the E-mail this morning he had a message saying his order was refunded and he didn't know why. He said he found a copy of "Studio 14 Ultimate" and is wondering if it will load an stu file.
