Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
I am interested in creating a film using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with greatly increased depth depth like I've been seeing on many documentaries and film. It almost looks like it is in 3D, but there is no need for 3D glasses. Usually there is an image of a foreground and an image of a background that suggests movement What settings do I need to use in my software to do this? I'm also interested in making some films in 3D. What settings do I need for that with this same software application? Mike

If this is the effect I think you mean, it can't be done in Studio (or any other consumer NLEs I've heard of). I believe it can be done in After Effects. I'm also interested in making some films in 3D. What settings do I need for that with this same software application? Mike
S17 can do 3D, but you need a 3D camera for video. Studio will automatically detect the format and set the properties. If you want to experiment with 3D titles you can use the Timeline setting/Imaging to select 3D.

Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
Thanks for teh information. Can I download v2d video and convert it to 3d using these 3d settings? I also want to improve the depth of field for the visuals I'm using too. How do I do that?

Are you looking for something like this?
This is made with Studio 19 and made of still images

How did you do that Ingolf? To the OP - a 2D video file won't have any 3D information. Like a Mono sound recording won't have any Stereo information.

Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
Thanks Inghoff! Yes, I would like to do like to do as you showed in that clip - still images in 2D-3D, but I also want to do that for moving film images as well. I also have only 17.5.0.327. Can my build do 2D--3D for still and moving images, or do I need 19? I have the following other questions: 1. Is there anything I can do in 17 to significantly improve the depth of field on still and moving images? That would be a huge help! 2. I also, I wanted to confirm that in order to edit 3D films in 17, I need a camera that will shoot 3d correct? Is there any way to convert 2D film into 3D using 17?

AW: Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
jjn:
How did you do that Ingolf?
It’s cool, isn’t it?
First you need a picture editing tool; I used the freeware Gimp 2.8.
Then you need a picture with the foreground and the background information and you have to cut out what you want to see in the foreground. Paste this in a second image with the same size and with a transparent background.
Then you have to fill the cutted out part in the first picture in a way that it simulates the missing information. In Gimp the plugin Heal Selection / Resynthesizer may be useful.
Save both pictures.
Now launch Studio, it can be an older Version, it should even work with Studio 8.
Place the background picture on the main video track and the foreground picture on an overlay track.
Pan&Zoom the background slowly, Pan&Zoom the foreground a bit faster.
That’s it.
Jeff, you got a PM.
Mikeodie, this can’t be done with moving film. And as Jeff wrote before, a 2D video doesn’t have any 3D information. It’s just like a picture on a sheet of paper. You can’t see it in 3 dimensions.

Re: AW: Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
Thanks InGolf I guess I should have worked that out - but you not only need a decent photoshop type of program, but subject matter that can have the "foreground" cut out relatively easily. I'd guess that with 3D editing software you could then even make a still picture look "3d" given the correct viewing equipment. However, that's a huge amount of work compared to buying a 3D camera

Thanks for your answers. You mentioned developing a 2D 3D effect in After Effects. Where do I find that in 17.5.0.327? I found an effect for pictures under a tab called, "2D-3D", but it does noting for the deph of field effect I wanted use for my next film.

I just found what looks like the latest GA release for Gimp, 2.8.16. I'm not sure if that is the version you are referring to? It came out in November of last year.

Re: AW: Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
Sorry for the extra questions, but where in the new Gimp 2.8 do I find information about creating a 2D-3D image?

Re: AW: Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
I have two other questions: 1. Are there any good You Tube links that teach how to create a 2D-3D image that can be imported into Pinnacle 17? Everything I've found so far appears to be creating a 3D image out of a 2D image. 2. Is there is a way to import a self-contained 3 D picture as part of a 3D film project in Pinnacle? Is there any distortion to the 3D picture when doing this?

Re: AW: Re: Using Pinnacle Ultimate 17 Version 17.5.0.327 to create a film with increased depth
Hi Ingolf! One of the other moderators suggested that I use an application called Gimp for creating the 2D 3D effects you were telling me about. I found the application, but I have the following questions: 1. Do you know of any You Tube videos I can check out that show how to create this 2D 3D using Gimp? It seems like the video links I've found show everything other than that. 2. I was told that I can create the same 2D 3D effect in Pinnacle 17 in a place called "After Effects", but I can not find that tool in that area. Where in Pinnacle can I find how to do that effect?

I don't know a video tutorial showing this for Gimp. But I described with words what to do in my previous post.

You don't. You find it in After Effects.
That's a software sold by a competitor of Corel.
