PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

I never encountered this before.  I have an archived project which I need to re-open(restore) and create an MPEG2 DVD compatible file.  Project restores ok, and I let it completely render on the timeline, then I go to make movie, make my selections, and click "Create File".  Process starts momentarily, then just stops, with weird red characters in the box above the "Create File" button.  I tried to attach a screen capture, but can't seem to figure out how on this board.  The characters show as 0/21544@--:--:--:-- [00:00:00.00-00:11:58.04].  This is obviously a time code reference.  When I play the project on the timeline it ends at 11:58.03 (not 11:58.04), and 21544 would be the number of frames for 11:58.04. There are no assets on the timeline after 11:58.03.

I've tried restoring it twice, and same thing both times.  Timeline plays fine all the way through till the end at 11:58.03.

    Any ideas?

    How to post a screenshot.

    Yes you're right, it's a timecode reference.

0/21554 means that Studio failed to create 1st image of the file.

What if you try to export using In and Out orange callipers in Export tab, from say 1s to the end ?

Re: PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

create an MPEG2 DVD compatible file

DVDs are MPEG-2 CODEC.  So; create DVD. Not File..

Before you do that, Delete Auxilliary Files. If there are still some remaining. Delete the Hidden Render Folder. How to do that; HERE

    saby,

I don't see in/out calipers in the Make Movie tab.  The two boxes for [beginning] and [end] are ghosted out.

    colour,

I need to make a DVD compatible file so I can bring it in to Encore and create a DVD.  This is standard procedure for my workflow, but I usually do it while my Studio project is active, not restored from an archive. I did try deleting aux files, but still same problem.

Sorry, I had in mind new version of Studio.

In PS15, place markers on timeline, then in Make Movie tab use [beginning] and [end].

Having that fade in/out transition at the beginning of the timeline doesn't make any sense. Please delete it and try again.

The In/out calipers you have to set them yourself before exporting.

You could perhaps set one at the 2nd frame and see it that solves the stalling at the very first frame.

    Re: Re:PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

Saby, I tried what you suggested.  No luck.  Same problem.

Paul, that fade is a lazy man's fade in from black.  I don't always do it, but it has never given me trouble before.  Before archiving the project, I was able to output a 1080 MPEG2 and a 720 mp4 file with no trouble.  I did try removing the fade-in at the beginning and the fade-out at the end, and even trimming of a few frames from both ends, and after doing all that, also deleting aux files.  Still same problem.

So am I out of options?  I could just bring in the 1080 MPEG2 file I made originally, and just make a DVD output file from that.  The reason I do this is because Encore's down-res encoding is terrible.  Studio does a much better job at making a quality DVD file.

    Thanks for the ideas everyone.

I'm curious to see if the same issue happens if you export using another format.

Saby, I had the same idea, and yes the same thing happens when trying to output any file format.

Try to cut a bigger part of timeline.

PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

Here is another suggestion to try.

Copy the first part of the timeline incl. the first scene, set correct project format, start new project, rightclick the empty TL and paste.

Render that small project to a file and in the original project, replace that part with the rendered file.

    A last suggestion:

In the original project, copy the whole timeline content, set correct project format, start a new project, rightclick the empty TL and paste. Save this project with a different name and see if outputting file works.

Re: PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

Have you tried making your completed project into AVI to see if it finishes up. After that, then you can make your disc again.

Re: PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

Well I tried all the suggestions, and same problem.  I cut a much bigger part of the timeline, tried copying all content and pasting into a new formatted project, tried the AVI output.

So I had to move on and just bring in the 1080 MPEG2 file I had created when the project was active, then create the DVD spec file.  This worked fine.

If I ever solve this, I will post the solution.

    Thanks for everyone's assistance.

Re: PS 15 - Restored project won't output file

I've seen this before if the very first frame is blank - where the first video or photo starts at frame 2. You can expand the timeline as much as possible and try to see if the first frame is blank and then try to remove it by inserting a title on frame 1 and then removing it along with the blank space.

Since your starting from what looks like a black screen, you might remove the 1st fade-in and have a black title for the first 2 seconds and then fade to your video.
