I have been using Pinnacle since v-10, and up graded through ALL the versions.

I use a lot of audio and vidio programs and editors.  I am running system 7x64, and the computer has been remarkably stable.

I bought the CD for v-18.0 in March, and loaded it.  It worked fine.

A few weeks ago, I received an email advising me of the patch to upgrade to v-18.5, so I installed it last week.

Unfortunately, in the process, it deleted the the Montages files and others. 

So I uninstalled it in an attempt to do  fresh install - but now, on placing the CD disk in the computer, I do not get the install window...

... I get a box that says, "Can't continue because Pinnacle requires Vista Service Pack 2" 

But there is no , "Vista Service Pack 2" for Windows sys 7x64... Vista is a very old and obsolete operating system.

 So now, I have nothing.  I called early in the week, and got a very nice person, who listened and said he would have a tech email me.

But no email ever came :(

I called again today and got a nasty fellow on the phone, who probably has English as a 4th language, and he basically told me to suck a rock. 

So can anyone here please help me???

On the disc root you have a Welcome.exe file. Right-click it and select Properties. In the Compatibility tab make sure that "Run this program in compatibility mode for" is not checked and Vista selected in the dropdown list.

I'm not sure this applies here, but whenever I uninstall anything I use CCleaner's reg cleaner to wipe out any lingering reg files before I do anything else. It always finds lingering files left behind. I haven't installed my SU 18.5 yet so I haven't had a chance to experience any possible glitches. I'm sure I probably will.

Another option might be to revert back to a restore point before you installed 18.5. Then try to either reinstall 18 or repair it if you have that option when inserting the install CD.

I've kept AS1, PS16, PS17 and now PS18 on the same drive. Since I am starting a fresh Win7 build (my current one has been running since day "1" of Win7 release), and having PS18U working, I am not installing the previous versions.

I have upgraded PS18 to the latest and have not experienced any crashes that destroyed the program. 

While I have had some glitches, most were "one off" types that didn't appear again. 

I too use Ccleaner Free registry cleaner after each uninstall. Never had a problem reinstalling. I just patched on my new hard drive to the latest build. All is well on my computer.

Thank you... I was able to revert enough that my computer is not asking for "Vista service pack 2".

 I will order a new copy of 18.5 and not bother with 18+patch- I don't need the headaches again

I think Coral/Pinnacle's customer service SUCKS!!!

As I know, the 18.5 Version also needs the 18.5.1 patch, to be up to date.

I can say, for Pinnacle, I've never used their customer service. That doesn't mean Pinnacle is 100% either, just that I don't need them. And from what I have read in the forum about information from customer service, sometimes it's wrong. The days of where there were people that actually used the product and could offer help and advice are long gone. Especially in the consumer market. 

As for the latest patch, no problem at all. Up and running and editing.

As Nick wrote in an other thread "....Thus, we have created this 18.5.1 patch that will apply over 18.5 also,...", I think I'm right.

AFAIK, the sole exception of new patch which includes all previous patches fixes was 17.6 that required to have 17.5 already installed. There was a warning about that in the KB.
