Hello, my name is Jacques Lamontagne and I'm director of Marketing at Pinnacle Studio/Corel.
Thank you forum members for the helpful feedback you've shared about Pinnacle Studio 17. Unfortunately, it appears that some of our users have not had the great experience we expect from our software. We want you to know that the team has been following the info you've provided and is working diligently to have the issues corrected.
We've introduced a number of product updates since the launch and recently released 17.1 that offers support for 4K Ultra HD. This update also includes all the stability enhancements we introduced in the 17.0.1 and 17.0.2 updates that came before. It is important that all our users check they have the latest updates installed. I also want to assure you that we have scheduled a new patch in the coming weeks to provide another significant performance and stability boost. We apologize to any user who has not had the great experience we expect with our software. You have my commitment that Pinnacle Studio 17 will continue to get better and better.
The forum moderators are doing a great job helping with your questions and also bringing your comments and concerns to our team. I want to personally thank each of them for all their hard work. Please continue to take advantage of their impressive knowledge, problem solving skills and passion for our products. While I can't be present in the forums all the time, the moderators are also an excellent way to get information to us and we're giving their feedback an even greater voice in our product plans moving ahead. If you want to make sure your feedback makes it to the Pinnacle team, the forums are a great way to do it.
Thank you and please keep sharing your feedback and questions in this community. Your comments are vitally important to our product plans and we are hard at work to ensure Pinnacle Studio delivers the power and quality you need. Jacques Lamontagne

Re: A message from Pinnacle
Thank you for making an appearance in the User Forums. This kind of interaction from Corel, along with letting us know they are working on the issues posted here and given to the Moderators goes a long way with me. Knowing that another patch is in the works is great. Here's to hoping that all the issues will finally be resolved and we can get back to editing and enjoying the program.... and of course, looking forward to a better, more prosumer PS18!

Re: A message from Pinnacle
Thank you Jacques for this very promising message.
Happy to read that yet another patch is in the pipeline and that Pinnacl/Corel are working hard on the further development of Pinnacle Studio.
BTW, I'd like to translate your message to Dutch and post it on the Dutch forum so users in Belgium and in Holland are also aware of what's going on at Corel/Pinnacle.
Hope you don't mind me doing that?

Re: A message from Pinnacle
I still have Pinnacle studio 14 and have not upgraded because of all the problems with studio 17. But this message from Jacques Lamontagne makes me think a new version of Studio maybe in the works for me down the road. The goal for Pinnacle Studio/Corel should be to make a better product than Power Director which has won PC magazines best video editor award multiple times.
thanks, Jacques

I wonder about those "awards". They say it's the fastest, yet in their own testing PS16 was faster. Hmm...... oh, BTW, I own both PS17U and PD12U. PD12U does not come close to the functionality and capabilities of PS17U. I only use it for one thing... multicam. Oh, and did you know that you can only have a maximum of 2500 assets at one time? And you have to create folders within the program of it? Not like in PS17 where it uses your own folder structure. I bet PC Mag didn't tell you that either. I have over 12,000 assets in my Library.... .....sorry Moderators on this brief side tracking rant.....

Re: A message from Pinnacle
Well, I am totally gob-smacked that a Corel Top Manager has shown his face on these forums (I'll have to lie down in a dark room - back in a mo!)
Perhaps it was the same many years ago under Pinnacle ownership when we had to suffer the total ineptitude of Studio 4 (been around a long time, some would say, 'Too long!' -and they were a shady bunch!). I can't remember!
Communication is the 'Name of the Game' and let me give you a small example. If I didn't appear home by, say 11pm, my wife would worry and I would get bollocked! If I told her that I wouldn't be home until after 11pm (for whatever reason), she wouldn't and I wouldn't. (Are you following, you at the back?)
I had more or less written Pinnacle/Corel off. The Company looked like a box-shifter. I didn't buy PS17 and there will be no 18 or 19 or 20 unless we support the latest level. Perhaps I should see what the drama is with 17?
HAND, Alan Wells

AW: A message from Pinnacle
Hello, I'm happy to hear, that S17 will receive more updates. Hopefully stability of S17 has priority against new S18...
I started with S7 and all the time there were problems at the beginning with new versions. Therefore I always waited some time and some updates before updating my Pinnacle Studio. At the moment I'm still working with S12.1. This works very stable. But today S17 Ultimate has been delivered. I'm still waiting for the new PC and then I will start with S17 and Win 8.1. Hopefully Studio 17 will work properly on this new installed PC with no old program- and codec-stuff. I also assume, that many users have problems, because they mix different types of video (SD, HD, different datarates...). Greetings, QEK

QEK, mixing on the timeline is one of the advantages of using Avid Studio/PS16/PS17.

Hello, my name is Jacques Lamontagne and I'm director of Marketing at Pinnacle Studio/Corel
Are you the Comedian who stated in Corel's Press Release when they acquired Pinnacle Systems from Avid that Corel would continue to support Avid Studio & Pinnacle Studio ?
If you are, then; "You can fool some of the people some of the time. Not all of the people all of the time".
Corel are Asset Strippers, where Products go to die.

Re: AW: Re: A message from Pinnacle
Matt DiMaria was interviewed in the Press Release of Pinnacle's acquisition by Corel, not Jacques Lamontagne. No annoucement of continuing support of Avid Studio & Pinnacle Studio in this Press Release.

if nothing else has been learnt from the whole Corel / Pinnacle experience, its that performance is the ONLY metric by which they are to be judged.
Its good to see an acknowledgement of the fiasco that was PS17's release, and its nice to hear that they are "listening" and intend to improve things going forward.
But ultimately those are just more words.
Promises, pledges of support, advertised features, words of appreciation, etc, etc, have little value -- evaluate them only by what they deliver.

I suggest you re-read it.
That's an Edited Version, anyway. There were others that specifically use the word "Support". That Version implies "Support."
I objected at the time when Forum Members were appointed Moderators, when formerly there weren't any. Only Company Moderators.
I've since been proved right, where Forum Member Moderators are seen as Company men. Hence Jeff's Disclaimer in his Signature
Ingolf has resigned from his Moderator status. Jeff has intimated that he would do-so. J Koch (Or however his Username was spelt), declined his appointment & Bittmann who still occassionally Posts in Video Friends Forum, very seldom Posts here.
FWIW, Saby, you & I have never got on, due to my continually taking you to task for your sarcasm, belittling other Forum Members. , Unbecoming of a Moderator & you're still at it

Hello Jasques, Currently I am not a moderator nor have any knowledge about Studio 16 nor 17. I would like to get your permission to translate your message in spanish to post it in the spanish forum. Also, I would like to request from you if you have an employee or someone who knows spanish to browse in the spanish forums because that sight is completely forgotten. There is nobody from support that can help someone in there and I only sometime post in there for something I might know or just tell them to translate their problem in english and post it in the english forum to get some quick answers.

Re: A message from Pinnacle
Bonjour Jacques, Thanks for the post, and the information you provided; I really appreciate that. However, right now I'm so mad I could take your software and put it right up the woodstove chimney - and believe me, the fire here in Michigan is HOT! I was on an old buggy version of your software with support for only one processor core and upgraded expecting that several years of updates would be an improvement (by the way, neither your salesman nor any of your literature that I could find indicated that Studio 17U had multi-core support - you should change that). In one sense it was - rendering now occurs in half the time it did, working all four of my processor cores. It's a good thing it's "fast" though, because I have to try an indefinite number of times before I succeed! My first pair of DVDs must have taken nigh a dozen attempts before I finally succeeded. I thought I had found the key and tried a second pair - not much; it's failing on me again. After my third attempt I'm ready to take your programmers and roll them in the two feet of snow we've got outside! I am a programmer, and I would NEVER under ANY circumstances turn out software as ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY HELPLESS as yours! What were you thinking? I'd like to know what you're going to do to make this right - I paid a lot of good money, I've wasted hours and hours with the software and on these forums and it still doesn't work. Here's an idea: Why don't you offer customer support? When your software is malfunctioning, I should be able to call and get some help. Next, include some robust debugging code in your software so that when it crashes it tells you and me both exactly what went wrong and why. That's what I do for my customers. Thanks, Rob

No, your first language for many months now has been anger and resentment. It's your right, but it's not my/our (moderators) fault.

I did, and still don't see anything about continuing support of legacy versions of Studio.

It was ok for Dutch, French and German, so I can't imagine it'd be a problem for Spanish.

@ Saby
It looks like Jaques Lamontage has received additioinal flak in the German Forum:
Hello Mr Helmut42,
I unfortunately do not speak German, and Google translate does not do a very good job. When I wrote that I was sorry about the difficulties encountered by users of version 17, I meant it, and I still do. If you have had difficulties with the product, I apologize to you as well. However, if I read the google translation of your comment, I would like to add that I am never disrespectful towards any of our customers, nor with any competitor for that matter. I guarantee that we are working on another patch for the product and hope to have it out within the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
Jacques Lamontagne
Since he's a Director, he's paid to take the buck & accept criticism, sarcastic or otherwise.

Peter, your remarks about Jacques Lamontagne are personal, insulting
and incorrect. I've
always pressed to allow you total freedom of speech because your
contributions are so valuable here, but I feel your current comments about
Jacques are ill judged. Just because someone is "in charge" it doesn't mean you shouldn't show them common courtesy as an individual - at least until you have a concrete reason not to.

Sorry @ Colour, if you quote a thread from the German forum, then you can not rip apart the relationship to the other posts. Helmut42 made a mistake with his own translation. He understood the original posting incorrectly. His resulting therefrom responses came over pretty polemical. Sorry, english is not my native language.

Hello R-Vera, I would be most grateful if you did translate my message to Spanish and posted it on the Spanish forum. Regarding having someone monitor the Spanish forum, I will ask support to see if this is possible, but I cannot guarantee that we have the resources in place for active support of the Spanish forum.
