    10 x render speed improvement ?

    Hello,

I am on S16+ and am quite happy with it! However more render speed is always wellcome.

I have a PC that is well qualified for BluRay 1920*1080 projects - see my profile

Now Pinnacle claims S17=10* render speed improvement when on AVCHD. I wonder if that figure would (somewhat) apply compared to my S16+ version and the 1920*1080 i .mts files from my camcorder and 1920*1080 Blue Ray projects?

Who has experience with that? Can you confirm such a speed improvement for my case?

Yesterday I chatted Pinnacle support and asked for a trial download: --> not supported. The helpdesk guy suggested to purchase and evaluate 30 days and then refund or keep it. I don't like to pay for a trial and hope my money ever comes back!

When subsequently I asked above question, the answer was Ï don't know, I don't use it........... !!

So any experience from your side is welcome before I upgrade to 17+

    Betreft: 10 x render speed improvement ?

The 10x render speed improvement seems to be pure theoretical. It works in a few cases, where the original footage is not modified. As soon as one of the scenes is edited, even with a simple correction, like trimming the beginning or the end, the whole movie is rendered again at low speed.

For 1440x1080  footage with 5.1 sound smart render is never offered.

Re: Betreft: 10 x render speed improvement ?

I would not buy it for the "10x" speed improvement. If it worked as many would like, then yes, it would be worth the upgrade. But if you want a faster render, get a faster computer. That's the bottom line. And if you went PS17, you would have to buy the Ultimate version if you want to produce Blurays, the Plus version does not do this.

PS17 has had a long and tough road since it's release, which was premature. It was unstable and crashed a lot. But Pinnacle released at least 6 patches to fix things. Now, it works and is pretty stable, although I think PS16 is more stable for me with my keyboard shortcut editing.

Unless you want a screen recorder and an audio "fixer upper", there isn't much for you there. And you would again, have to buy the Ultimate version, which includes the Red Giant plugins, which I do like, and some other "bonus" features.

That's not my definition of "purely theoretical" Wink

It works, but in very limited circumstances. I have seen it work with trimmed clips, but including a title or photo in your movie will cause it to fail, for example.

Re: Betreft: 10 x render speed improvement ?

Of course, jjn as always, is right on how the 10x improvement works. But that is not how most would want it to work. Render what is not "corrected" or with titles, etc., but render everything else.

Since all of my work involves some corrections, the feature is one that is never used. So, faster computer would make things go faster for me.

Re: Betreft: 10 x render speed improvement ?

    Thanks all of you,

It is clear to me now - as I already expected: upgrading Studio would be a waste of $$$ for me. I'll stick to my current H/W and PS16+

(David Hunt: I fully agree with your image, just hope Pinnacle gets the message)

I'm glad that I spent the $$$ on upgrading my PC first and not on PS17. It's a rather powerful  PC now and any additional $$$ would only result in marginally more speed.

Pinnacle: May be next release ????

    I'm sure they have.

Now that S17 has had numerous patches, it is not that bad. Personally though, I feel there is not enough difference between S16 and S17 to warrant an upgrade at the present time. Others may think differently.
