    Studio 17.02 Export problems

Just finished first project using Pinnacle 17.0.2.  Trying to export to a file. -3 examples:
    1. The process continues until about 70% then hangs - with processor still working at full speed!  Cancel export doesn't work.  Have to quit the program.  Same for a 30 minute file and a 5 minute file.  Raw media was "mts" from camera -1440x1080.  Tried export to preset HD 1080i (1920x1080) as well as HDV2 (H264, 1440x1080) -same result.
    2. Export worked to finish with a file which played correctly in Windows media player, but when re-introduced to Pinnacle 17 as a video asset, Pinnacle crashed as soon as the icon was clicked on (to create scenes etc).  Tried Pinnacle14 with the file - OK.
    3. Tried a DVD with it hanging at 70% finished - video was rendered, no menus.  This time the processor stopped.
PC is laptop with 128GB SSD drive, Intel Core i7 quad core 2.4GHz-3.4GHz .  8GB memory Nvidea GeForce 2GB

Have used Studio 9, 10, 14 over approx 10 years
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Use of Studio 15 and before have no bearing on the use of Avid Studio, Pinnacle Studio 16 and Pinnacle Studio 17. They are totally different products. They might carry the Pinnacle name "Studio" but that is all they have in common.

When you tried to export, did you, in the Advance>Preprocessing>Re-render completely before export  option? I have problems when I go to export, and the export crashes somewhere on the timeline, usually where I have a complex, multitrack part. Re-rendering has allowed me to fully export and to be able to play back rendered video on the timeline.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Thank you for your reply Tony.  I changed the Export re-render parameter.  Both files that previously failed during the render, completed.

However, when I placed the completed file into the Watchfolder and clicked on the icon, NGStudio stopped immediately and crashed.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

After complaining to Pinnacle support I was asked to send a screen shot of the error message. No being computer literate and no clue how to do a 'screen shot' I photographed the screen.

The error message I get when I try to burn to DVD is "Warning - the disc exporter has experienced an internal error (0x80004005). Then the whole program shuts down.

System used; Laptop running windows 8.1, 8GB Ram 1 TB hard drive, 2GB video card, Intel i7 chip.

Many thanks - will experiment - don't seem to have a print key on this keyboard but suspect there is one lurking somewhere - will have a look in my book.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

With reference to my export problem had the following suggestion from Corel support -

"Can you copy the contents of the timeline in the Edit tab then open a new project paste the timeline there wait all the rendering is finish before you export the project to a disc. Check the option to always re-encode entire movie when exporting to a disc."

Not had time to try this yet but I recall doing a similar procedure with previous version of Pinnacle when it 'stalled' during the editing process.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Have now tried this technique. From further advice I have received from 'support' today, it appears that unlike earlier versions of Pinnacle where one could select the entire movie, copy, open a new project and paste in the entire movie, one has to copy individual clips and paste them. As my project consists of over 140 clips with four tracks - video, separated video sound, voice over and music this is to say the least not very practical especially as I have no way of knowing if I would solve the problem.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Shift-Cntrl-click on first clip to select everything.

Do you have the name of the support person who told you that? This needs reporting....

and CTRL-A should copy all the objects on an active timeline as well as David's suggestion.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

I just copied 6 tracks of hundreds of assets including photos, montages, titles and audio using both jjn's, and David's methods to a new project. I also added them all to another project. Obviously someone does not know what they are talking about.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

The exact advice I had from Corel  was a below. Maybe I misunderstood and will now try the advice given by David Hunt.

"Click on a clip on the timeline then select the CTRL + A  to select all then CTRL + C to copy the open a new project then press CTRL + V to paste"

It did not work for me.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

So the advice they gave you was correct and the phrase "one has to copy individual clips and paste them." was one of your own.

It may have been that you hadn't made the timeline active by clicking on a clip and ensuring that it was selected first, but following the above advice does select all the timeline clips on my installation.

Perhaps you could try it again. Selection is indicated by a (subtle) orange border around a clip.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Yes - as I said "I may have misunderstood" - had they said "click on the timeline" rather than on "a clip" - it might have been clearer. Just downloaded the latest patch which appeared today so will see if this solves my problem before 'trying again".

    Many thanks for your help.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

I believe that improvements to export have been made in the new patch, so it's worth trying.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Have found a way round my problem. Selected all as suggested with Shift + control, then right clicked and selected copy - then opened a 'new movie' right clicked on paste and my copy was there. (No mention of 'shift' In Corel advice).

Export went fine until got to 50% of 'create image' then the dreaded NVidia stopped working message appeared.  I despair !

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

I am having the same problems. It stops export around 75%. I tried what you said to do. It got around 90% one time. But now it stops at 75%.

Once it crashes I have restart my brand new gaming computer to get Studio 17 to work again.

I bought the computer thinking it would solve all the problems with Studio.

I really believe the problem is that the company is using cheap out-sourcing techs that don't know Jack S.....

So, what is the solution to this problem?

Oh, yes I am just trying to make DVDs from VHS. I am not adding any extra bells and whistles.

Maybe I should go back to using my old slow computer.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

Update. Did my usual trick - turned the computer off, had a cup of coffee and came back and  gave it another go. Went away leaving it to its own devices  and read the paper. Came back an hour later  and a miracle had happened - I had actually burned a DVD . Possible explanation could be that the patch I loaded earlier this morning required the computer to re- boot - nothing said to that effect on the download . or may be the copy and paste technique does the trick. Bit of a pain if one has to do this every time.

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

There is a new patch 17.2, but it still does not work. It keeps freezing.

This is my second new computer; in the last 4 months with an intel I5 and all the best stuff for rendering. It is faster until it crashes and then I have to restart the computer to get studio to run.

I keep having to play with the defaults to get it to work.

When is patch 17.3 coming out?

    Re: Studio 17.02 Export problems

    17.3 has the same problems.

It took me 4 crashes and computer restarts to make a DVD from VHS yesterday. The Default and Auto settings do not work.

    Still no control over Quality.

    I can't wait for 17.4. Ha Ha
