    import from sony vx2100

i'm importing my grandsons football game, when the camera is moving or the players are running the picture is sorta jerky, in the camera viewfinder the video is good no distortions, after imported and viewed, the movie has the same problem, I imported the same movie on my old system with s12 and the video is nice and smooth

I'm assuming you are using Firewire to import from the VX--2100

What you might be experiencing is a known issue with Firewire on both Win 7 & Win 8.  This is a Windows driver problem.

If it is, you can try rolling back to a legacy Firewire driver. This sometimes works (though not always).

But the simplest solution would be to use your old system for Firewire imports -- saving to an external USB drive -- and then bringing that drive to the new system.

(Its what I do if I need to do a Firewire import on my Win 7 machine.)

Also, check your timeline and project settings. Make sure they are the same. As for the jerkiness, is this in Preview within the editor or when the file is exported.

If it's in the Editor viewer, you have to go to your Preview Settings and make changes there.

    Re: import from sony vx2100

I've checked my timeline and preview settings, this is when i'm importing from my camera via firewire, while watching the import the video looks jerky (while the video looks smooth in the cameras viewfinder), and when I replay back after the import it in preview its again jerky, it really takes a lot 'away from the video, like I said before when I import on my old system the same video looks great, I really didn't have to want to import on one system and then transfer it to the s17 system to edit, the file gets to be about 16 gigs of dv avi

It doesn't sound like it's a legacy driver issue to me.  But here are the instructions for rolling back to the legacy driver in Win 7.  Not sure if this is applicable, but here are some instructions for Win 8.

    Re: import from sony vx2100

If I remember the old times of my mini-DV camcorder, footages once imported are stored in AVI files. Right ?

Are those AVI files still jerky if read with a software player like VLC or WMP ?

    Re: import from sony vx2100

yea they are avi files, and if I play them on any player wmp, win8, Roxio etc the video is jerky but not on my older system, I really want ot use s17 to make the dvd's, if some ppl on here have said say they don't make dvds w/s17 what do they make? my next investment is going to be hd camera and make blue ray disc I think

    Re: import from sony vx2100

most of us upload to YouTube

I assume that the video files that play smoothly on your old system were made ON that old system -- is that correct ??

Have you tried rolling back to the firewire legacy driver yet ??

    Re: import from sony vx2100

Jerky playback of all your DV files? Where are they stored on the new system? DV-AVI is about the highest bitrate of all consumer video. You would struggle to play it back from a class 4 SD card, for example.

To make sure from where (PS17 or your system) the issue comes from you'd better use another software to import your VX2100's footage. CaptureFlux is a good alternative.
