Different problem. It should be in a different new post with a detailed description of your workflow, source footage, computer specs, etc..

DivX export will not play back

    Attachment: sky 1.jpg

    I make another try......

I have exported the demo video "The sky is the limit" to DivX full screen default format.

    As you see from screenshot:

VLC states thats its an mp4 dv50 codec and plays the video

The WindowsMediaPlayer refuse with the message "WMP encounder a problem...."

On the Details tab / Properties of Windows there is no information about the video (frame height/ width , data rate etc..). The same on Windows Explorer details...

Pls try to regenerate the bug yourself....

VLC plays EVERYTHING..... Even the corrupted ones...

    Plz... Try....

Export  ->  File  ->  Type :DivX  -> Preset: Full Screen

and then check   Properties -> Details tab  -> video

If it's blank then...  PS16 does'nt fill the Properties correctly....

and the normal players can't recognise the file....

DIVX export will not play back

    @jjn

It's well known that DivX its the a narrower container than MP4......

    With other words...

An DivX player plays DivX for sure.... but its not clear that it can plays all versions of MP4 files....

Contrary, an MP4 player for sure plays DivX files....

P.S. As moderator you could transfer my post to the correct (or a new one) thread....

Nope, don't understand any of that. If you are saying your problem was related in some way to the one reported by the OP of this thread, I don't agree, and it caused confusion, particularly as your solution - fill out the comment fields - doesn't apply to MP4 files that don't have comment fields.

The forum software here is very flaky when someone tries to split threads. I can have a go, but it gets confused about child posts and it might not work. So if you report your DivX bug in a new thread then I'll delete your posts here. Then I will point out your thread to the developers.

Did you try to recreate my findings?

    Yes or No?

    The rest are meaningless.......

    No, I didn't. I don't work for Pinnacle and I don't use DivX.

...But having spent 15 minutes splitting your thread hijack, I've now just tested it...

If I make a DivX Full screen SD file from a PAL project, it plays pack perfectly in Windows Media Player, at least on my machine (nVidia). It also has the properties filled out.

You have a ATI graphics card. So can you upload a file you have made that won't play in WMP on your computer and I'll test it on mine.

No, that file won't play in wmp on my nViida machine, unlike the MP4 files in a different thread.

not sure if  I'm getting the file or not -- but if its 32KB, it does not play at all for on my PC -- yet it does play from the browser

My download is 26Mb. It plays in Mediacoder. The file properties are missing in WE.

What I assume the OP has done is make a DivX SD full screen file from the sample project. That is what I've just done.

It's 30,016,604 bytes. Plays perfectly in WMP and shows the properties below.

The file I've downloaded is 29,949,238 bytes. It won't play in WMP but will play in Mediacoder. Mediacoder shows nothing in the first set of properties so the wrapper must be corrupt in some way.

If someone with an ATI card can make a DivX file of the sample project (preferably PAL) and it is successful, then this is only a bug for the OPs installation. I can't reproduce his problem.

Also tried in Power DVD 10 (free version that came with the laptop). That failed with "Cyberlink Power DVD does not support the playback of this media format".

I always used to use MPC on the desktop (not had a failure) so I installed that. However, even that failed to play it.

Re: (Changed title) DIVX export will not play back in Windows Media player in Windows 7

VLC -- which is able to play most anything -- does not play this file

But FWIW, I for one want the OP to explain why all this effort is worthwhile -- what advantage is there to you in the proprietary DiVX format ??

In general I don't know anyone else using it -- and in any event the particular peculiarities of your PC appear to cause it to create non-standard DiVX formatted files

So what gain makes this worthwhile ?

Re: (Changed title) DIVX export will not play back in Windows Media player in Windows 7

Thx to all  for your interest  :-) I will try to answer to your questions

" ......and in any event the particular peculiarities of your PC appear to cause it to create non-standard DiVX formatted files ..... "

I don't think it's my PC but PS16.... Because when I export the same file with PS15 plays perfect (even on WMP.....) and the details tab of properties is complete

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/sddf004kkssy4dr/2nd-Sky-Dvix-PS15-OK.avi   (its a 40MB file - 40.759.636 bytes)

On the exact same file exported with PS16 the details tab of properties is blank and you can play ONLY with VLC...

     https://www.dropbox.com/s/26iwgtflm4xfumv/2nd-Sky-Dvix-PS16-problem.avi     (its 42.899.369 bytes)

" ... what advantage is there to you in the proprietary DiVX format... "

I already wrote on my 1st post :  " ..... I want to export the project to a DIVX format file for a quick-inspect  on TV via an DVD-player with USB port. That trick was OK with pinnacle 15... but not with pinnacle 16...."     I'll try give some more infos :

I used to watch the video I'm working for on my TV because somehow its different from my monitor... But the TV its not in my room and its not equiped with DNLA... So I found that's easier to export my work on a Divx file, write it on a USBstick and play it on my TV with the mean USB port of DVDplayer.... Now everything its more complicate...  I copy the DivX file I create on a shared folder on my PC,     I connect my TV with my laptop via a HDMI cable       and I'm  playing the file on my laptop with VLC ....

" ..... VLC -- which is able to play most anything -- does not play this file.... "

Strange... Try the direct link  (I suggest not to click on the link,   but do a right-click and then Save link as...)

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/glnh8dn8x41m71q/Sky%20Dvix%20PS16%20problem.avi (its 29.949.238 bytes)

    " ... So what gain makes this worthwhile ? .... "

No gain at all.... Just I would inform the forum  about a bug I encounter.... What else?

Currently I'm using PS16 and PS15 on Win8/64 and thats my working OS. (on profile there is no win8 option for OS, but I wrote it as comment)

All the notes I wrote apply on PS16 (loaded with all available updates) running on Win8/64.

Also I will try to install PS16 on Win7/64 to test it again,    since jjn found that the detail tab on his PC its OK

So, currently it's looking like this might be a problem between S16 and W8. Please post back when you have isolated that.

Re: DivX export will not play back

On a clean install of Windows7Pro/64 the export to DivX format works PERFECTLY....

So as jjn said, must be problem of PS16 related with Windows8Pro/64....

Sortly I'll make a clean install of Win8.1/64 Preview and I will inform you about the results...

Re: DivX export will not play back

    Well.... After months....

I updated my system to Win8.1....

I was forced to un-install and then re-install PS16  (because PS16 refuse to start among other programms....)

Now DIvX export on PS16 with Win8.1 works perfect....

So... for the reason of the issue.....  Ask Bill (Gates)
