Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
I just upgraded my computer to a new motherboard with an Intel i7 CPU, in order to run Edius on a Windows 7 partition.
I'm still using Windows XP Pro and AL7 for a weekly church video I edit. Everything was working great with the editing, until I went to export to DVD. I have tried it twice and Liquid crashes immediately upon rendering the last frame of the project. It just freezes and doesn't go past rendering the timeline, and doesn't go to create the ISO file and burn the disc. Any thoughts? Could it be the new CPU? The graphics processor? I'm using the on-board graphics. Up to this point, I thought it was working great! Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Ross

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
My guess is that it is the converted files. What happens if you fuse the timeline to a new file, put that in a new sequence and burn the DVD from there. I had real problems with converted files in Liquid doing exactly this.

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
Hi Lew, This is native standard definition DV which was captured in Liquid via firewire from my Sony DVCam deck. I've never had a problem with this before. The only variable (and a big one, apparently), is that I replaced the old dual Xeon motherboard (5-6 year old) with a new Asus motherboard with an i7 CPU (3770, I believe) with integrated graphics. Liquid loads okay. I was able to do all my editing, add FX, titles, etc, with no problems. I could even fuse the entire sequence. I actually sat and watch the DVD file rendering process. The moment Liquid rendered the last frame, prior to actually creating the DVD (and the ISO image file, I believe), the program froze. This morning, I tried to take the fused sequence and bring it into another program to create the DVD and was unsuccessful, because I ran out of time (I have an 8-5 job now). I plan to get back to it tonight and find some way to create a DVD. Thanks for your suggestions. Ross

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
Interesting. If you have a good fused AVI, you might want to try something like Sony DVD Architect Studio to make the DVD. It is a very good and inexpensive DVD authoring program. I assume you are still running Liquid under XP.

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
I had problems rendering and outputting a BD. It was due to Matrox Codecs installed with the Lightworks NLE I tried for a short time. Ross, at some point you will only be able to run Liquid on an XP machine with hardware from that period. Its time has passed.

+1 All things come to an end. At some time you are going to have to move on to a modern NLE. Good Luck Mike

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
Mike, I know what you're saying and plan to purchase Edius soon. It's just hard to say good bye to an old, familiar "friend" who has worked very well for me. Lew, just an update on how I solved my current problem. I mentioned I fused the 58 minute video. I started Windows 7 64 bit up. About a couple of months ago, I had to get my firewire card replaced and it came with a free version of Corel Video Studio Essentials 4 (I believe). I installed that and found it would create a DVD off the timeline. I imported the fused AVI file and in about 45 minutes had a working DVD and an ISO file on my hard drive. So, for the time being, I have a workaround to still create a DVD from my AL7 videos. Lew, John, Mike, thanks for all your help. Ross

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm still baffled by why Liquid is crashing. I tried fusing a 58 minute video created from a captured DVCam tape. Then, I took the fused video, laid it on the timeline and first created only an ISO file of one minute of the fused file. No problem. Then I did an ISO file of 10 minutes. No problem. Then I tried to create an ISO of the whole 58 minutes. CRASH! As I mentioned, I installed a new motherboard. The only other change is that I did not put back in the Audigy 2 sound card and am just using the onboard sound. That shouldn't make a difference, should it? Would re-installing AL 7.2 make any sense? Up until I replaced the motherboard, I have not had any problems creating a DVD off the timeline.

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
When you installed the new motherboard, did you reinstall XP? Is this still a dual Xeon system? Did you do any overclocking? You could try reinstalling Liquid over itself and see if that helps.

Hi Lew, When I installed the new motherboard, I did not re-install XP nor AL7.2, The new motherboard has an i7 3770 CPU with 8 gigs of RAM. Tonight, I tried to render 20 minutes of timeline (720P) to a 720P MPEG4 file, and it did the same thing that rendering a DVD did: It crashed AL7. It seemed to have created the MPEG4 file. I watched the frame render window go to 100% and then stopped. The MPEG4 file will not play in VLC Player, which should have no problem with an MPEG4 file. So you think if I reinstall AL7, it might solve te problem? Thanks. Ross

Re: Liquid Crashes during DVD creation
A couple of things. As you installed a new motherboard, did you install the updated drivers for it in the old version of XP you are using? If it is an Intel motherboard, you can go to their site and get them or the site of the manufacturer of your board. Make sure you update the audio drivers for the onboard audio also. Those should be on the motherboard makers site. Then, reinstall Liquid over itself and see if things work better.
