MovieBox USB & Studio Version 8 Driver Problem

I bought Studio Version 8 and the Pinnacle MovieBOX USB in 2004.

I installed it yesterday on my laptop (Windows 8) and cannot get a device driver to install.  I have downloaded PCLEUSB.exe (several times, different versions) and still no go.

In the capture source menu it says I have a choice of HP True Vision HD, Cyberlink Webcam or DV Camcorder.  Nowhere does it indicate it is seeing the MovieBOX USB.  And yes, during the installation process I did tell it to install MovieBOX USB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to run Studio 8 on Windows 8? It's not even Vista compatible let alone W8, I'm afraid.

If you have some other capture software, then what OS is your laptop - 32 or 64 bit? Early versions of the Moviebox don't have 64-bit drivers. See HERE

Sorry, I meant Windows 7 (64 bit).  The first time I tried to install it, of course Windows 7 said INCOMPATIBLE!!!!    So I changed it to be Windows XP compatible, it installed, and works fine, except the drivers won't install and so it won't recognize the device.

Did you try the drivers from the page I linked to? If your Moviebox is as old as I suspect, though, there aren't an 64-bit drivers for it.

    Yes, I tried those drivers.

I paid $199 in 2004 for this system and remember well the problems I had getting it to run then.  I am not surprised that it doesn't want to run under Windows 7.  When I upgraded to Windows 7 I generated a large stack of programs that would no longer run.  Some of them were quite expensive, but time marches on and things change so I am not too upset at not being able to use this now.

I just ordered a Diamond Video Capture VC500 for $35.00 including shipping and I expect it to do all that I need, which is just copying VHS tapes to DVD.

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Bill.

If you still own your old computer (Windows XP) you can capture your videos in there and just edit them in either W7 or W8. Just make sure you capture your videos into an external hard drive.

You may also want to check your Windows XP computer to see if you can upgrade it to W7 and just partition your hard drive so you can have Windows XP and W7 in your computer (I have it that way installed). [optional step].
