    BlueBox and Newer Computers

I have been using Pinnacle software for some time. When I bought Studio 9 I also got the AV/DV board and the BlueBox (Breakout) box. This worked fine for importing through several versions of Studio. Last year the computer with the AV/DV PCI board quit and I had to replace the computer.

I would like to continue using that BlueBox, but this computer only takes PCIE cards.

Does anyone know of a PCIE card that will work with the BlueBox? Or another solution that would allow use of the BlueBox?

    Thank you for your time,

I believe the Bluebox only works with Windows XP and is not compatible with either Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Here are some drivers for some Pinnacle products. If your item is not listed, then there is nothing you can do.

The only last choice you may have is to buy an XP desktop computer so you can continue using your Bluebox (just my opinion). I still use Windows XP to edit and also have W7 for other tasks I may have to do.

I do have the USB-500 and it does work with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. I am not sure about Windows 8 at this time. It also works for Studio 8 all the way to Avid Studio and Studio 16 too.

No, the "Blue box" is a completly passive piece of kit that plugs into the deluxe PCI cards. There are two types of these, the second of which does work with W7 and probably 8, but only woth 32-bit OS (ounless you reduce the memory to 1Gb!)

The best solution is to buy a Moviebox that connects via USB. If you want to output video as well as capture it you will need the Plus/Ultimate version.

    Re: BlueBox and Newer Computers

Looks like installing Pinnacle 8 (I bought BlueBox with that) does work with W7. It might be just a OS version check in the installation script fails and the HW would work (at least the FW connector works). But hacking the script might be too much of work.

So I basically have to buy a new device to digitize analog videos. What should I buy?

I have the USB-500 and it works great with XP, Vista and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit). I am not quite sure about Windows 8 or 8.1 because I don't have that program yet.
