    Cleaning up after Studio

    HI

Can we have a list of files and location that Studio makes temp files in please?

I note that anywhere there are video files that get added to a project we get loads of *.avi.A.index and *.avi.index plus *.scn files.

But I also found a mass of files in the render folder.

Could Studio not clean up after itself or is there a utility to do this?

    Thanks

    Mike

You might have to do some manual cleaning up. Sad

Read THIS and THIS. Something might be of use.

    Hi thanks.

It would be good to hear from Pinnacle where all the files that Studio makes go!

    The 'render' folder etc.

My hard drives have been getting small quickly the more I use Studio and it seems there are a lot of files retained even when you use the built in delete aux files command.

They go into a "Hidden"Application Data Folder. You need to "Unhide" the Folder, before you can Delete the Sub-Folders &/or Files. The "Sub-Folder" being "Data".

What Sub-Folders & Files you have showing in the "Data" Folder, are Project specific.

    1) UNHIDE

Go to: Start / Control Panel / Folder Options / View Tab / Files & Folders / Hidden Files & Folders / Enable "Show Hidden Files & Folders".

    2) DELETE

Go to: Start / My Computer / Documents & Settings / All Users / Application Data ("Unhidden Folder") / Pinnacle Studio / Data / Open that & all Sub Folders & Delete the lot.,

BTW - Pinnacle didn't know, until they read Studio Users Posts, when S10 was 1st launchedWink

Not sure how this relates to my computer locking up when I try to make a disc.  I tried to follow the path but Vista 64 is quite different.

Can I just confirm, you open the data folder and remove everything inside?

    Yes.

Removing Aux Files from File / Delete Auxilliary Files doesn't automatically Delete all of them & they continue to build-up. You have to Delete those manually, plus those in the "Hidden" Render Folder that don't show in File / Delete Aux Files. It's those additional Files that accumulate & eat-up the space on your HDD, without you knowing that they are there.

It's worth while going-up the Route I Posted once in a while, to check for the above accumulation.

Make sure you do this while Studio is closed. This will ensure that everything will be deleted and that there will be left overs from the current project that you're working on.

    Re: Cleaning up after Studio

Well for me this works: I use CCleaner to automate cleaning unwanted files on 'specific' directories. IIRC, you need to set it in Options > Include > Add Folder. And yes, I am using the non-paid portable version so I don't clutter the PC's registry etc. :P

     Hope the addendum help.

edit: Ok, I've posted on an outdated topic again. My bad. The addendum is for the new reader of this thread (if this could make my sin lesser evil).

When you say "route" are you referring to the "path" where these files are?

    Re: Cleaning up after Studio

Marc, HERE is a back link. Wink

Tony, you might go to the "make movie tab", and locate the big blue disc. That's the drive that your files are located in. Click the folder icon to the right of the disc, and that will bring up a "Browse for folder" window. You can use the scroll and go up and down until you see the "render" folder.

The default location is buried sorta deep in the tree, I prefer to keep it on my desktop for easy cleaning. You can change the location by simply using the window, and creating a new folder where you want it to be.

If you just simply want to leave it in place, place a simple shortcut on your desktop.

I don't know Vi$ta, but you still might (hopefully) find the render folder the way I explained.

    Hi

    Yes - Thank You.

I don't know how I arrived at the correct files, I seem to have gone around the houses, but got there in the end.

    Cheers.
