    avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

On the advice of a moderator i bought a dazzle DVC100 off craigslist. it was new used maybe one time. to start out with i have a dvc170 that won't work under win 7 64 bit. so i used a second drive and installed win 7 32 bit and used that as needed to capture. ok.... so i get this 100 and download the drivers, hooked it up to the av outputs on the back of my cable box and started to capture my saveed DVR shows. everything was going as it should so i walked away for a while to do something. i came back and the avid studio was still capturing the show and you can watch it,but the sound wasn't coming from my 'puter anymore. this happened twice .two different shows. so it was close to the end so i let it go. after it was done i opened it up via windows media player and the sound was there, on the whole captured clip . so my question is , what's going on? thanks ,ron p.s. the 170 worked perfect in the setup i was using .

Did it show any dropped frames?

Does AS still have audio output when you finish capturing?

Do you have a timescale as to when the audio stopped working?

Is the audio in sync when you bring it into AS?

BTW, what's the video quality like relative to the DVC 170?

JJN , as soon as the capture started it dropped 5 frames and none since  , I played the video i captured in AS and in windows media player and both had sound throughout the video with NO sync issues in either player/program.

it appears that the captured video is fine and with good quality.   i wasn't at the 'puter when the sound stopped but i'm guessing about 20-30 minutes into the capture the loss of sound started. i'm wondering if it's a windows issue....

i would have to say the 100 and 170 are about the same as far as quality goes. ,ron

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

I've no experience of just the audio monitoring stopping during capture. Frame dropping has caused the audio capture to fail andd the video to carry on.

The frame dropping at the start of the capture might be caused by having drive indexing enabled for your capture drive, but it doesn't sound like a showstopper.

If the audio monitoring always stops at a particular point, that might reveal some clues.

Thanks for confirming the the video quality of the two devices seems about the same.

i have a few things to try... i'll keep you posted as i figure it out   BTW the 170 never had this problem. gonna try different sound drivers etc.

    Are the meters still moving?

they were when i checked. i'm also getting gray bars on the top of the picture i didn't notice before but were there as i checked the other videos i did. i'm also getting a static like sound coming from my pc speakers when i have the 100 running and i'm previewing  or capturing

Those gray bars are closed captioning data - they are part of the video signal. Looks like the Dazzle doesn't overscan as much as the DVC170. No idea what is causing the satic, apart from the possibilty of poorly shieled cables.

do you think any settings in my cable box might solve that?  i just did another capture and the sound stopped at 18 min. 6 frames dropped in the very beginning. as soon as the capture was stopped the audio in my 'puter came back. video was an hour.  sound was complete on the video i just captured

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

I doubt if the cable box can be stopped from outputing the signal. Those lines are unlikely to be seen when you view a DVD on a TV. If you do see them, the easiest way to get rid of them is to use a thin black title a couple of pixels high at the top of frame to mask them..

What format are you saving to? 18 mininutes is some sort of boundary ISTR - 2GB of AVI?

i'm doing MPEG2 - mp2  10mbit  i'm going to do another to see if it's the same time

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

ok... i removed the nvida HD sound drivers, re installed the realteck sound drivers  still sounds stops 13-20 min. into a capture. installed pinnacle studio 14 just for kicks and it still stops . going to try an older sound driver . one thing that was weird ... when i plugged the 100 into a USB 3.0 it got real choppy and didn't like it at all.

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

ok... spent a lot of Wasted time on the DVC 100.  i installed win 7 32 bit on a hard drive, "i also did this on the 64 bit version"... only installed basic drivers to get it running. no sound driver ,bare video drivers and AS. the 100 did the same thing it did on every other software i used.  it captures about 10-20 min of video and the 'puter sound drops out though the sound is still applied to the video clip. i have tried ever configuration i could think of other than running separate cables directly to the line in on the puter. my advice to anyone wanting to buy a dazzle product is DON"T !  there's an unending stream of complaints on the web. it's sad that a company can't address a fix for their products. they leave it up to YOU to solver their problems .. same with the software. i was considering staying with the pinnacle, avid, corel or what ever it goes to next. but i found that sony at least has a better tech support system. i just can't understand why they leave people to fend for themselves.

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

I'm struggling to understand what the huge showstopper is if the audio monitoring drops out after a while if it isn't affecting the final capture file. You said yourself you were out the room the first time it happened, so it's not as if you are listening to it.

you fail to understand that  IT   IS   NOT   WORKING   RIGHT   . the fact that i can or can't hear it is not a valid point. i shouldn't have to baby sit. just to clear things up... i turn the volume up on my 'puter so when the sound stops i can come down stairs and stop the capture. does pinnacle offer any help that doesn't require me to continually shell out money  to get help for their faulty equipment?  do you work for them? i know your a moderator for this channel ,but what affiliations do you have with pinnacle? ron

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

I know it's not working correctly on your computer. It works on many other computers. I'm just saying it isn't a showstopper. If you have AS or PS16, then you can set the capture duration you want.

I don't work for them. I have no affilations. I try to get them to fix things, but they often ignore me.

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

i tried the 100 on AS , pinnacle 16 and 14 and none work.i tried it on 32 bit system and 64 bit systems.. not working right.  that's a fair statement on the fact that they do work on many other systems but why not on mine. is it the sound card setup "realtek" or video..?   and no surprise on pinnacle ignoring you  ...

Re: avid studio/dazzle 100 sound issues

ok... i used the 100 on my wife's laptop and it worked fine . i'm suspecting that my Intel sound system has a compatibility problem with AS. even after the sounds stops while capturing , i still can hear sound from the desktop and play music. so the sound seems like it stops working between AS and the computer sound sys. i hope that makes sense . i tried new drivers , old drivers and no drivers. still the same thing... sound stops between 10 and 20 minutes . oh... BTW my wife's laptop is running win 7 64 bit
