    Can't capture video for my AL7.1

    Hi, I just bought AL7.1 without the BOB.  To save cost, i bought a PCI firewire card.  when i hooked up my mini-DV recorder, windows recognised it.  So i loaded up AL7.1, use EZ Capture, and the program just hung there. The moment i unplugged the camcorder, the EZ capture screen appears.  so i hook up the camcorder again, and this time, windows doesn't even know the camcorder is there, let alone AL7.1.  It happened everytime!

    wat should i do?

    thx

    Problems like this are usually caused by having Liquid installed on a machine with lots of other programs some of which can interfere with the proper operation of Liquid. Are you on a clean install of XP? Also, you should be on Ver. 7.2 of Liquid. Finally, your motherboard uses a SIS chipset instead of an Intel chipset. That could also pose a problem. I only recommend motherboards based on Intel chipsets.

    It could be the firewirecard which is causing problems as well.

    Connect the camera, before you start your pc. If the pc is started does Windows see the camera ? if not, this is the first problem to tackle. If Windows won’t properly see the camera, Liquid won’t do it at all.

    This kind of problems can come from a resource conflict.

    Try putting the Firewire card in another pci slot. Try them all !!And see if it makes a difference. Disconnect all external devices when you do so (USB, Network, etc…).

    Re: Can't capture video for my AL7.1

    You can certainly make a dual boot system. The way I do it is to make sure that the drive you boot from is always a C drive. If you just let XP set this up for you automatically, it will assign a letter other than C to your second boot drive. No big deal, but I just prefer my boot drive to be C no matter which one I boot from. To do that, I disconnect all other drives and format the second boot drive as a new C boot drive. I then create the following boot.ini file and put in the root directory of my original C drive once everything is connected back. The second boot drive is the Liquid boot drive.

    This is the boot.ini file:

     [boot loader]
    timeout=12
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect=OptIn
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Avid Liquid 7.2 Disc" /fastdetect

    You may need to modify it a bit to work correctly. See if you can figure it out.
