    question about "VCR input" checkbox

If I'm capturing with the Pinnacle 710 USB capture box and Pinnacle Studio 12, should I check the "VCR input" checkbox only when I'm capturing from an actual VCR (a VHS tape player), or should I check it when capturing from any tape-playing system (i.e. a Hi8 camcorder)?

    Thanks!

That all depends if you will be capturing with RCA plugs or Firewire.

I always capture from RCA plugs (or S-Video).  Does that mean I should always check the "VCR Input" checkbox, even if I'm not capturing from any kind of tape-playing system (i.e. a game system or a DVR)?

I had never heard of "VCR Input". I have the USB-510 and all I do is just change the capture source to capture either from RCA or Firewire.

Here is what I'm referring to (notice the red rounded square in the center of the screen).

"VCR input" was a driver feature (sic!)  found in pre S14 versions for ANALOGUE captures on the USB5xx and USB7xx boxes only  ........................ as features go this was a useless thing - most all analogue captures at the time required that tick-box to be selected else severe tearing was evident on the captured material (some installations however were blessed to not experience this "tearing" effect no matter the setting)

I have fought many Pinnacle guys about this and eventually they saw the light and removed it from S14 onwards (in effect having hidden the already-selected "VCR-input" tick-box in the drivers) .................. iow if you never used the USBxxx under S12 and earlier you wouldn't know about it at all.

Seems like I have not seen it because it is kind of rare when I capture analog videos. I have only been capturing Digital for so long that I only have been using the firewire port in my Desktop Computer. Big Smile

Re: question about "VCR input" checkbox

Hi nharp0386, IIRC the VCR Input is not check by defaults on PS11 or PS12, if you have the problem below you should check the box, as stated on this FAQ.

    1.  video in the capture preview window is poor quality, is jittery or stuttering
    2.  when played back, the captured video is poor quality, jittery or stuttering
