How can I open my saved project after I reinstalled Studio 14?

I did try to open my saved project and put it in my documents/pinnacle14/projects. But the interface for this project is gone. When I try to open it I see an icon of a black house in a black circle and a diagonal line. How can I connect my project to the Studio software? There must be a simple solution? Please help, I spent many hours on my project and hate to think of losing it. Lydia

That's the International Symbol for "No Home"

The contents of the Project Folder are hidden, to prevent you from tampering with them.

Your Project can only be Opened into the Timeline via it's associated STX File, as you've been doing uptil now.

You need to Post a Screenshot of what you have showing in your Pinnacle Studio / My Projects Folder (Directory). How to do that, in THIS Post, for me to look at.

There's no "One Suit Fits All " Fix.

You would normally only get that if your Project Folder is a "Hidden"  Grey Folder.

Your Screenshot Project Folders are "Unhidden". That shouldn't happen, but there are reasons why they sometimes do. Too complicated to explain why, here.

Just answer the following questions & wait for my next Reply:

    1) What is your PC's Operating System? XP, Vista 64 bit or W7 64 bit?

    2) Which Project Folder are you trying to Open? BASIS CHINA or Trial?

    3) If it's BASIS CHINA, do you still need your trial Project?

BTW - If you have either Vista 64 bit or W7 64 bit & are trying to Open BASIS CHINA Project Folder, there's a good chance the Fix I have in mind will open that Project into the Timeline.

    Don't do anything-else.

BASIS CHINA contains my saved project. Trial is little project I made to get the interface in mydocuments/pinnacle/projects. I did try to use the interface Trial to open BASIS CHINA . I renamed the interfase BASIS CHINA, but it only openend Trial.

Re: How can I open my saved project after I reinstalled Studio 14?

BASIS CHINA Project Folder doesn't have an associated STX File that Opens it into the Timeline. So you need to create one. You can use trial Project STX File if you no longer need Trial Project. If you do still need Trial Project, we can create a new STX File by other means.

    Do these:

    1) Delete trial Project Folder, if you no-longer need it.

    2) Re-name Trial STX File Icon to; Basis China (Lower, not Upper Case).

    3) Open BASIS CHINA Project into the Timeline, by double-Clicking on the newly-named Basis China STX File.

    Good luckSmile.

Dear Pinhead, by the way, you must be an Aussie?! We lived for 5 years in Aussieland and loved it.

My system doesn't want to be fooled with. I followed your instructions but pinnacle still openend the trial file, even when removed from my projects. So now there is only the map, named basis china, and the STX File Icon with the same name in my projects. I   removed the AVI i used for trial from the computer and emptied the bin but it is still there!

I did remove all my projects within Pinnacle. Trial has gone, now nothing happens when I want to open basis china.

I removed the AVI i used for trial from the computer and emptied the bin but it is still there!

    1) Is the AVI Source File you used for your trial Project the same one you used for your BASIS CHINA Project? If-so, you need to Restore it back to it's oiriginal Location, if it's still in the Recycle Bin. If it isn't & it won't empty from the Recycle Bin, forget about it for the time-being.

    2)

I followed your instructions but pinnacle still openend the trial file, even when removed from my projects. OK - Now create a New STX File:

    1) Launch Studio.

    2) Open a New Project

    3) Click Save

    4) Save My Movie Project  to your Projects Folder.

    5) Open your Projects Folder

    6) Delete the My Movie Project Folder

    7) Delete the Newly Named Basis China STX File.

    8) Re-Name the My Movie STX File to; Basis China

BTW - I'm not from Australia, I'm in the UK. However Pinhead has a canned Australian Voice, that's why he's wearing an Australain cork hatWink

Wait - Still adding to my Post.

    OK - Finished Posting.

Re: How can I open my saved project after I reinstalled Studio 14?

Hi, I am about to give up! It didnot work. The program says: wait a moment and than nothing happens. Patience doesn't work "cause I don't hear the comp work. I'll have to start my project, a one hour movie about our 5 week bicycle trip in China again from scratch.

Glad you are in the UK, worried about you not sleeping!

    Thankx

Re: How can I open my saved project after I reinstalled Studio 14?

In addition to my Post above, you need to go to your Studio My Videos Folder & Delete any AVI Index  & Scene Files you have showing for the Source Video File you used for your Trial Project.

ADDED - If you re-do your Project, Save As each Edit instead of Saving it, using the Same Project Name but with incremental numbers. That way, if you can't Open your last Edit, you can Open the previous ones, which should save you from having to Re-do the whole Project.
