    Mid-term Election Video

I made this video in response to a video contest being offered here in my area. 1st prize is $1,000.00

It is not my intent to get all political on this board. I WANT TO WIN so I did my best to match the criteria of the contest. Plus, I could really use the money :>)

Please, no comments about the subject matter. Just stay focused on the concept and design as well as the editing capabilities of Studio 14 HD

What a brilliant way of getting people to make your political statements for you. Total cost $1000.

I assume you need the $1000 so badly that you don't actually have to believe the message? Wink

(and are you proud of the second comment down on the YouTube page?)

Who doesn't need $1,000.00? For the record, I'm an Independent.

"(and are you proud of the second comment down on the YouTube page?) "

No. I don't agree with that opinion. I could instantly delete the comment but I strongly believe everyone is entitled to free speech.

And yes, I did win the $1,000.00 first prize. I donated the money to a local food bank in my area.

You never mention what the criteria were for the contest so it's not possible for anyone to comment on whether you adhered to them or not.

The video was well done and looked very professional but parts of it were not done in Studio 14. However I liked it anyway. Smile  added: from a technical perspective

Your statement about donating the winnings to a local food bank don't jive with the statement in your first post that you could really use the money.

    Either:

    a) You could really use the money and you just kept it.

    b) You didn't win first prize.

    c) The local food bank could really use the money and you gave it to them but you just didn't state that in your post.

    I don't pick c Wink

Including incitement to racial hatred? It's not free speech, it's a comment on your YouTube page that you have invited people to watch.

You've just snuck this under the wire. You got people to watch it on a forum that should be completely devoid of politics, but you have hidden behind a cloak of "impartiality" that means we can't complain about the content. People should not be able to post political messages on this forum however they wrap it up.

The clip looks highly generic - I see the same images in many of the Tea Party Ads. It is from the University of Cut and Paste with some ridiculously pompous music linking a series of stupidly simplistic half-baked untruths about a President that you deem personally responsible for a global economic downturn the causes of which were sown before he came to office. I'd accuse it of hyperbole, but I think you expect it to be taken seriously.

How's that for a critique? Big Smile

You would have us believe that this was produced entirely on Studio14?   Wow, what an advert for Pinnacle!!!   But I don't believe you.  You may have edited footage in Studio14, but you certainly did not produce this with S14.

As a relative newbie to this forum, it sux that blatant electioneering is allowed here, while my innocent post about a piece of very useful FREE software that I use was removed because it was deemed to be SPAM!

All I can say about that is " WinDirStat "  Wink  Ha Ha!

Please let me kindly remind you all that we can't accept any political discussion.

Technically spoken the video is made professional. Pictures change according to the music. The message is simple to understand.

    I don't rate the content.

I elected to remove the comment you are referring to for the precise reasons you have stated above. It was filled with vulgarities and extreme racial slurs. I support "free speech", not "hate speech". Cool

I use Studio 14 mostly for video editing and special effects (that's what it says on the box). It's a great program and when asked, I always recommend it. I've yet to really get into "producing" but I'm looking forward to it someday. Movie

They can be sometimes one in the same.

Since I took offence to the video, it's my right to think of it as a "Hate Video". And being that more than one vid have been posted of the same flavor, I would tend to steer towards a hidden political adgenda.

I would love to post my political views here on this forum. BUT, it's against the ethics and rules of this forum.

    Re: Mid-term Election Video

Ah, but Mike, you could make a video of your political views, post it on YouTube and then post to Video forums asking for people to critique you work. Then people watch the propaganda - particularly because you have said that although the prize is only $1000, you really need the money.

Next, in response to any criticism that you are trying to circumvent the rules, claim to be "independent" (what ever that means), refuse to delete a racist comment on the YouTube page and then change your mind - perhaps because the comment was from a supporter of the Tea Party rather that it giving offence.

Oh and backtrack on the $1000 as well.

Apparently that loophole has worked for Marshalddog - at least the second time around

I'm going off to re-cut Birth of a Nation and see if Hans will let me link to that, as long as I use Studio.

    Re: Mid-term Election Video

    jjn -

I posted the video under "What are you doing with your software" because, although I'm new to video editing, I wanted to try to make something that looked as professional as I could AND I put a lot of work into it. I spent weeks finding the right music, images and video in the proper formats and resolutions and it was painstaking to say the least. My only intend was to have fun and WIN.

I started to assemble the video and quickly began to realized that I was out of my league when it came to editing together all of these elements. So I gave up and shelved it. A few weeks later I started toying around with it again and decided to take another stab at it. During editing I stumbled upon the keying features in Studio 14 and started experimenting with the "lighting" effect using key frames. And what a huge find. Now I'm experimenting with other effects and the different ways key framing can be used in the same way the professional editors do. Synchronizing all of the material to the music was really hard too and took untold hours and a lot of late nights.

When I was finished, I showed it to my wife and she was stunned. I showed it to some friends and they were speechless. They couldn't believe that a little software program, purchased from my local office supply store, in the hands of an "everyday joe" could allow people to make their own videos with those effects. They encouraged me to show it to other people and so I did. That's it!

It's obvious by your comments above that you don't agree with the content. But that's okay. Making this video opened my eyes to the potential power of Studio 14 and now I'm really excited to learn everything there is to know about it.

Squeaking for Myself - Which is what I usually doWink I take the view that if someone has taken the time & trouble to Post a Clip, it can be discouraging if it doesn't attract a response.

Case in point: I post a Link in the Pinhead Thread, to each Pinhead Clip Posted on Pinhead's Website. The only responses we get to those these days, are from Members on the Video Friends & iClone Forums.

Really nice video.  I love the effects and editing...something for me to aspire to.  Thanks for posting it (sorry for all the political argument...it's tough to be a conservative doing anything creative).
