    Hi Lolly

Studio 12 comes in 3 versions a base product a Plus product and then the one I use which is the Ultimate option

Studio 14 is similar in that it comes in 3 options as 12 does, the higher up the ranking the more you get with it .Both S12 & S14 will create Bluray discs if that is the path you are looking to go down.

The BIG difference between 12 and 14 is that 12 can still use Smartsound from within the program as a plugin and is very useful to alot of users, while Studio 14 does not directly support Smartsound ( You have to use it outside of Studio to get the results you want)

There seems to be quite  a few issues with S14, just take a look around the forums to check this out .

I hope this gives you some clue to your question.

    Re: Pinnacle Studilo

Hi Yorkie, thanks for your reply and info.  I have noticed that there have been a few "issues" with S 14 and am therefore reluctant to buy it. I think I shall go for S12 Ultimate.

Will still be able to edit my old standard video clips using S12 or will I have to revert back to S10Plus?

    Re: Pinnacle Studilo

I am using Studio 12Ultimate to edit all my vhs tapes so I dont see you would have any issues. How are you taking the video footage into the PC at the moment using Studio 10?

    Added

I also have Studio 10 and Studio 12 on the samesystem so they can live happily together!!

That's really not the BIG difference, unless you have made a major investment in Smartsounds discs.

    Othe differences

    • A completely new (and buggy/incomplete) Importer
    • A completely new (and buggy for some) Motion titler
    • The ability to copy and paste effects
    • A Project bin (which doesn't remember what you put in it)
    • The Ultimate collection comes with some powerful extra plug-ins

    Thanks JJN.

    A few more questions!

What are Smartsound Discs?  Is this the music available within Studio 10 or they special CDs

    What is a "buggy"

Can I edit my old non HD video clips using S14

    Does S14 Ultimate "hang/freeze" frequently?

    Re: Pinnacle Studilo

    Thanks Yorkie,

Can I run S10 and S14 alongside eachother?

Is Smartsound the prescribed music that can be used directly from within Studio when editing?

At the moment I am capturing the video footage direct from SD card.  I cannot capture direct from my HD Sony via USB using Studio 10 and therefore need to buy either S12 or S14

    Lolly:

Smartsounds are provided by a different company to Pinnacle/Avid. Avid now provides Scorefitter, which does the same thing, but is "midi" based and doesn't sound as good (to many people). S10 came with Smartsounds and a relatively small set of tunes, so many people bought extra discs, and these don't work in Studio 14, you have to use another program.

If you think you will be using a lot of automatically generated music, this may be important, as S12 can still support Smartsounds

    What is a "buggy"
I just mean the program can hang on occasions or doesn't do what you expect it to (as in "bugs")

Can I edit my old non HD video clips using S14
    Yes

    Does S14 Ultimate "hang/freeze" frequently?
That depends. On a fairly powerful, well set up system I find S14 no worse that earlier versions. On my laptop, S14 will hardly run the importer at all.

Other peoples milage may vary Smile

    Lolly

You could always try the 'free' trial for Studio 14 that Pinnacle is offering at the moment and see if it does what you want. A word of WARNING: do not open any Studio 10 Projects into Studio 14 as it will make them into S14 files only! Open your project as usual in Studio 10 and then resave your project as something different to use with Studio 14 for example:- our holiday by the coast  saved as a S10 project could be resaved as our holiday by the coast for studio 14. When you open S14 open the last one!

Smartsound is great for getting music to fit exactly to your scene. Many of us have bought extra cd's to use. If you look in your audio section of S10 you should find a few there.

I was really asking about how you got your old vhs tapes in to the PC?

Yorkie, many thanks for all your info.

I capture my old tapes using S10 Plus via my old standard Sony Camcorder.

Hi Lolly no problems we are all here to help anyway we can - keep asking!

You should not have any probs editing your vhs tapes with S12 in my opinion.
