I have just come back from a demonstration of Media Composer 5 in Dallas and we were all told that 5 is now available

Ver. 5 is available as of today. If you upgraded from Liquid you will be sent an email on where to download it and a new serial number. Be sure to register your Ver. 4 now to be sure you receive the email for Ver. 5. Marianna posted the below on the Avid forum.

Avid Media Composer v5 shipped today!

For those folks that bought the Liquid to Media Composer v4 conversion kits already, here is a break down of when you will be notified of MC v5 eligibility.

• Customers that bought AND registered the Liquid to MC 4 conversion kit from 3/10/10 thru 4/12/10 will receive an email from Avid within the next 5 days that includes a link to the MC v5 download and the serial # to activate the MC v5 software.
• Customers that bought AND registered the Liquid to MC 4 conversion kit from  4/12/10  thru 6/10/10 will receive an email from Avid within the next 5 days with the link to the protect site where you will be able to download MC v5 and the necessary serial # to activate it.

Download of the MC v5 must take place by 6/30/10 - as at that time the links will be removed.

For those that buy AND register between 6/10/10 and the end of the promotional period of 6/30/10, you will receive an email from Avid the first week in July 2010 with a download link to MC v5 and the serial # to activate the software.  This is the ONLY group that will be allowed to download MC v5 after the 6/30/10 date

You do NOT have to install MC v4 to register.  This can be done at www.avid.com/register at anytime.

I just tried to purchase the Liquid to MC offer from the Avid website store (via link in the email I received) but the product is "out of stock" 

What do I need to do to take advantage of this promotion before 6/30/10?

I tried to make the purchase last Friday and got the same out of stock...I sent Marianna an e-mail last Friday and found she would be out of the office till this week so I sent an e-mail to BLKDG asking him about it and he said the Liquid to MC offer ended June 10th as that is when MC 5 took the place of MC4...I then sent him all the e-mail and forum threads showing the offer is good through June 30th...I haven't heard anything further.  All my messages and answers were from Friday...

I think Todd (BLKDG) is a bit overloaded, as is Marianna, these days.  The Liquid-to-Media Composer upgrade is supposed to be valid until June 30/10.  This will get you the boxed version of MC4 and all the productivity pack stuff.  You then use the System ID (all numbers) from the MC4 box to register it (no installation necessary).  Then you will receive an e-mail with the link to the "protect" web site and a Serial number (all letters).  You use the serial number in the fill-in form on the "protect" site to get to the download page for MC5, a Sample Project and something called "Goodies".  The web stores in the whole world have had a hard time keeping up with the demand, so if it tells you that it is Out of Stock, wait a day or two and try again.  It also can't hurt to send a PM to Marianna explaining the situation.  She (or Todd) will tell you what to do next.

The MC5 upgrade is free, but the "protect" web site is supposed to be removed by Avid after June 30th, so don't wait too long!

I received my MC4 box and just last Thursday downloaded MC5.  That's why the procedure is still fresh in my mind.  I haven't installed (and activated) MC5 yet, but plan to do so in the next couple of days.  Our house is topsy turvy due to a major renovation, so my Liquid editing computer is stored out of reach.  This one isn't up to par for MC (it used to be my LE6 editing machine, but now is used for work).

 This year I am missing most of FD due to a radio communications commitment for the annual Scotia Bank Vancouver Half Marathon which is a big fundraiser here.  I will be manning the radio at a checkpoint for any possible emergency requirements (exhaustion, sprained ankles, scraped knees, etc.) from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

For Jim and others interested, I heard from Todd at Avid this morning and he says they expect to restock the store by Thursday and we may order MC 4 and upgrade to MC 5 after that.  Watch the store!

I've received my notice, downloaded MC5, unzipped and wrote the files to a DVD, loaded that and the install went without incident.

Previously, having installed MC4 and played around with the tutorials I was concerned about finding a comfort zone after having worked with Liquid for so long.

Since loading MC5, I have gone through the online tutorials and I'm liking what I see... the learning curve has diminished somewhat.  I think that a bunch of Liquid has interwined itself thoughout MC5....

Now I'm wondering which Nvidia graphics card will get the job done at the best price point and still not screw with Liquid which I intend to keep using as well.  And will this new card furnish the Mercury boost built into CS5?

I must have missed out again. Store now shows out of stock. I was only away from my desk for about 90 minutes today. There was no stock when I left, and it shows no stock now that I'm back.

BLKDG said the stock came in and sold out in minutes!

I bought mine yesterday. Would the Avid Gods smile on me with the MC 5 upgrade if the product doesn't arrive before the June 30 registration deadline?

They are aware of the inventory situation. You may at worst, have to send an email documenting your issue, but they are working to accommodate.
