There's transcoding software for RADEON's too.

A pinnacle competitor has GPU enabled software.

I very much agree that PS desperately needs to be brought up to modern codec standards -- it DESPERATELY needs to employ a better AVCHD processing engine.

FWIW, Avid Studio is able to process and handle AVCHD without difficulty -- there is NO reason why this capability could not be put to use in PS.
